Anyone have experience, knowledge or opinions on the different types of self defense insurance offered by organizations such as NRA, USCCA, FirearmsLegal, etc.? Was briefly talking too a couple of folks who have had NRA and/or USCCA coverage in the past but are now switching over to FirearmsLegal claiming better coverage for less money. It was a quick conversation so I was pretty much in a listening mode. What coverage, if any, do you carry?
TIA !

And what exactly do you expect from this insurance coverage?

I am a member of The Armed Citizen's Defense Network. In case of a righteous self defense shooting, the network will give 10k toward lawyer's fee initially. You provide the lawyer.
When enrolling, the member will receive about 7 DVD's with talks about legalities, etc. One of the presenters is Massad Ayoob. In addition monthly newsletters covering all topics in self defense, choice of weapons, lawyer questions, etc.
It's your choice to make. Google it.

Interesting, never knew there was this type of insurance out there.
I say if self defense shooting, say a home invasion, I can represent myself no lawyer needed.
Sure hope I never have to find out though but with all the weirdo's out there, one never knows if I ever have to say, 'do you fell lucky punk'?

I have not done any homework on this, but I would compare costs of a million (or half mil) in balloon coverage on top of all your other insurance (assuming it covers legal defense costs) to the cost of some self-defense insurance. You may get more coverage for less money (or not).

The advantage of the self defense specific insurance is peace of mind, not for the money, but your liberty.
With ones like Texas Law Shield, if an incident occurs you make one call to them, they swoop in, bail you out and handle all the stuff necessary to keep you a free citizen.
I've not joined, at least not yet, but I'm seriously considering it. Friend of mine had to draw and fire upon a road rage person about a year and a half ago. TLS has so far put out over $50,000 in legal work defending him.
The down side for Texas Law Shield in particular is they use very scammy feeling sales tactics. (They show up to all the LTC classes and have a VERY high pressure sales pitch, which is specifically why I have NOT yet signed up, those kinds of sales pitches are a major turn off for me.)

I have had several times over the years, road rage crazies run me off the road. If not for my driving skill there would have been collisions. If I had been a cop, I might have drawn and fired. I've read and seen videos of that happening with cops - always claiming self-defense; "he used his car as a deadly weapon so I defended myself." And got away with it. Pretty sure, if you aren't a cop, you won't get a carte blanche in this scenario. In my cases, I just drove out of it and let the a-holes off scott free. Once I rode ahead (on the bike), Parked and waved, challenged the jerk to stop as he went by - he didn't - was truly a coward. Then I hopped on and followed him - he started to go home then decided that was a bad idea and drove to a yard sale. I found where he lived by stalking him nearby for awhile; he went home. I need a better plan. Maybe follow at a distance, to get their license number at least. Not clear what would be appropriate follow up. But something should happen to these ragers.

what is one to do though on road rage crazies when like I did I passed him doing 50 mph in a 55 zone and then he decided to speed up and tailgate me like 10 feet behind me on 2 wheels doing 70mph?
Slow down, get rear ended and dead
Speed up and try to loose him
Pull over and hope he does not rear end me to beat the crap out of him if he also stops? One good head butt with my helmet on outta drop him down?

Before paying anything more than pocket $$$$for what you describe, you should satisfy yourself it's not a rip-off. Even if it performs as described, $10.000 will not even get you started defending a firearms case and you have no coverage apart from minimal defense costs.
If you have assets to protect, you should consult with a competent insurance professional.
