Before I start let me acknowledge that I am extremely happy Trump won, almost as much as I am thrilled with the fact that Hillary lost.

I do fear a down fall coming that will effect many on this board.  I am retired, and for the most part am now living on a fixed income, no stock market gains (or losses) to watch, just social security and a very modest pension.

I feel that in the next several years it will become very tight financially for a lot of us as Trump starts to implement his wish list. His wall, his taxes on imports, the infrastructure improvements, are all going to cost money and require an expanded workforce in order to happen.

Trumps tax on imports is going to raise the price of goods until we can get a solid manufacturing base going in this country again, that could take  years, or a decade.

His wall and infrastructure improvements will require a much larger labor force, remove the illegals from the equation, and that means rising salary's.

If the farmers have to pay more to gather their crops or milk their cows, we will pay for it, the farmers are not going to be able to take less, they have bills to pay also.

All of those programs are going to be good for the country in the long term, but the people on a low or fixed income will feel the pinch in the future. Make no mistake, I WOULD MUCH RATHER FEEL PINCHED  than saddle my grand children with the 20 trillion $ debt that has been accumulating during that last  8 years. (not to mention the failed policy's)

This country has been headed toward a cliff at a high rate of speed, hopefully Donald will change the course before it is too late and we fall off. I think as citizens we owe it to our future generations to watch that this new government does cut waste and corruption as they promised when these programs begin, if not will be headed toward that same cliff.

Just as in nature, corrections have to be made from time to time.
We're long overdue for a correction.   We've been living off of our children's future earnings for way too long.   Time for us to pay up.   Not necessarily our fault with the exception that we allowed our "leadership" to put us where we are.   So, yeah, I guess it is our fault for electing fiscally irresponsible people to be our leaders.

It would take a Constitutional Amendment but, it's past time for Term Limits.   Maybe if we had term limits, professional politicians would find meaningful and productive jobs and legislate like it was their money and not someone else's.

I hope your guy is fiscally responsible , but his plan sure doesn't appear that way.

I admire your optimism that President Trump will actually be able to accomplish any of his campaign promises.  cooldude

Jim, I see the logic of your predictions sure enough.  But I am not sure that continued Dem tax increases (which were coming sure as.... death and taxes) would not be worse for us overall, over the same time frame (and that money would be all pissed away and given to the free crap army for their votes, and enemy governments).  But like a recovering patient, we may have some hard times on the road to recovery for sure.

I too live on a small pension and social security.  I do OK, but only have myself to worry about (better than OK, cause I don't have to get up and go to work anymore, which after 6 years still makes me smile every day).  Unlike our G, I put myself on an austerity program years ago, and doubled it in retirement.

My guy?   I'm the Anti-Clinton voter but, OK.   I did vote for someone (anyone) other than Clinton.
Not sure what inside knowledge you have about what Trump plans to do but, I don't think it's "Pay to Play".    Other than being pro-American jobs, I don't know what his plans are.

What I do know is, he has a history of surrounding himself with smart and experienced folks.   I trust that he'll follow that pattern.

As to whether or not he'll accomplish anything he promised, my hope is he is able to remove/replace the harmful things Obama put in place and help American's get back to work.    Obama Care is unaffordable and I expect it to be eliminated and/or replaced with something that is affordable and makes the recipients pull their weight.   Do I expect him to build a wall, nope.   I expect him to increase security and send illegals back to their home countries.   I expect him to allow some legal foreign nationals to work here on short work visas.    I expect him to protect Americans from terrorism more than Obama and execute a few actions to stop ISIS dead in their tracks.   But, I don't expect him to accomplish miracles.   I do expect him to be ethical and not follow the Clinton playbook.

Just curious but, it would appear like you approve of forcing our kids and grand kids to pay our way?
If so, just when do you think we should start paying our own way?

Either candidates "promises" were going to have to be passed first by Congress, at least most of them. Trump cannot raise import taxes by himself. Hillary could not raise taxes on people as she promised, without approval.

There are still checks and balances.
