2 days of "Shock and Awe"

The emperor has no clothes

A couple thoughts that I've discovered. I am just as proud of my country today as I have ever been in my life. It's been a strange experience the last 2 days. So many things have happened already. To see our President and President Elect come together for the good of the country is very inspiring. Most of my friends are on the opposite of politics than myself. So I think I get a good perspective on their opinions. But 4 years ago I was dumbfounded at some who believed that Romney was going to win, and were shocked when he didn't. I really couldn't understand or empathize with them. Well now I can. :coolsmiley:
I'm not a particularly religious person. I don't know if God had a hand in the election as some have said. I do believe he will have a hand in our country now. I have high hopes that we are a better country 4 years from now. We had dinner last night with some good friends. We are just as good of friends today as 3 days ago. Maybe even more so.  :cooldude: I am humbled in my knowledge of our society and our politics. But I am very happy for the majority of our club members and the country.
May our country shine. Rob

:cooldude: Awesome post.  I'll keep praying for him, his advisors and his (soon to be) cabinet.  Please send him your best wishes and good thoughts.  He's the Captain of our ship now, let's hope he steers us from the rocks!

Rob, I do know that our church members and many people prayed for a change from what we have .  The constant erosion of our Christian values and the interference by the Federal government was getting worse.
At any rate, what happened has stupefied all of the pundits and so called experts.  Draw your own conclusions but I know what I believe.

I have no illusions that things could go haywire and not improve with a new administration, but I do have high hopes too.  I have been encouraged by the civility of the proceedings thus far.

Rob, great post :cooldude:

After reading your posts for years and enjoying meeting you in person, I know you are being genuine in this one, as I feel you are in all.

I wonder, would you have the same hopes if HRC had won?

I don't think we would be seeing the leaders of our nation, pledging to come together, as we are seeing now and I don't know if that is a hit to Republicans or not.   I'm pretty sure we would not see people in the streets protesting, vandalising and such.

I feel the country was/is seriously divided and HRC as president would have been a continuation of that.

A change was needed and I'm happy for it.

I too am hoping for real and positive changes, as well as the opportunity to hoist a few again.

Thanks Bill  :cooldude: I'm not sure how I would feel if Clinton had won. Probably more mad and less shocked. I think the results this Tuesday had a reminder for me that we truly have a great and resilient country. A week ago the thought of Trump as our president would have seemed very scary. Now not so much. After all the country is just a collection of its people. I think we have a lot of good people.
I welcome the opportunity for some cocktails again also.  :cooldude:

I am a particularly religious person and I'll give you the benefit of my perspective.  I don't think anything in this world happens without the direct or permissive will of God.  That includes the election of Barrack Obama and Donald Trump.  Sometimes it's more than difficult for us to make sense of it or try to figure out why.  Sometimes we can see the good that comes and sometimes it clearly brings us harm.  Either way we are still responsible to be what we should be and do what we should do.  That includes Barrack Obama and Donald Trump.  Unfortunately that includes me and I haven't always done such a good job.

I too hope our country will be a better country four years from now.  I have serious fears that at that time our President will be named Pence.

When Obama was elected 8 years ago I was sure he wouldn't survive the 4 years. Here it is now 8 and they have kept him safe. I'm sure Trump will be in good hands.  :) I sure hope so, the country doesn't need any more to tear it apart.

The difference would be that B. Obama chose Joe Biden as his Vice Presidential candidate.  Trump chose Mike Pence.  Biden was Obama's survival insurance.    ;)

:2funny: you sure come up with some strange theories my friend. I'd be willing to bet that Biden would be more competent and popular than Pence. But my betting prowess has hit a rough patch. So who knows.

Pappy!

Doe-De-Doe Uncle Joe against Pence? Hmmmm.....here we go again!

I too believe it is God's will that allows leaders to gain office/power.  I truly believe and am thankful that Trump defeated Clinton, I see it as a reprieve from the bad stuff her administration would have brought us.

Trump will not be perfect, however, I believe, we are all in a better place for his winning whether you think so right now or not

Biden more competent than Pence??? I'm really getting tired of this bashing. Just because Pence rides a Harley doesn't mean you can bash him. I ain't seen Biden ride anything. This Harley bashing has to stop.

Comparing Biden to Pence?  Wow!  I think that Pence has done a reasonable job as Indiana's governor.  That's my opinion as a Hoosier.

I'm also sure that he wouldn't say to fire a shotgun up in the air to scare off intruders.  Neither would he say what Biden did to Obama on an open mike. Pence also doesn't take the attitude that Biden does on private possession  of firearms.

Yes, he seems to be a yes man for Trump but I'll bet that will change.
