New law will have electric/hybrid cars emit sounds when traveling 18 MPH or slower.  Seems drivers in the city are unable to avoid pedestrians walking into them because they are too damn quiet.

First, I think that is why they have horns, like are parents told us, look both ways before crossing. But I think your right, here in Mich. Detroit Metro area, they have been hit and running pedestrians around here like it is the latest fashion statement. I think it has been around 5 people in the last month, I think. One thing for sure they can hear a Valk. coming, if not Oops!!

My wife's Camry is 2 years old and already has the noisemaker. Maybe the new law specifies a decibel level because they are not that loud and would hardly be heard in a busy parking lot. Hope they don't make them beep like a forklift!

I agree the darn prius my neighbor has is silent in parking lot just idling.  I never knew he pulled into my driveway one time was totally silent all on electric motor.   All cars should emit some noise, even hybrid all electric cars like the prius.

I would have killed for a silent car when I was in high school.

Well Dreamaker, people don't know where the blinkers are, now the horn is hidden.  Might not know where it is at all.

No, they don't.  Being a smart and alert rider may save your life.  Loud pipes just piss off the civilians.  tickedoff
