I love the PoDunk life.

Had been camping and deer hunting since Saturday. Passed up some small 6 and 7 point bucks but never saw a shooter or a nice doe. Had a great time watching the sun and that giant moon rise & fall in God's country though. Sat around a fire with adult beverages, good food, family and friends at night. Life rocks indeed!

Got home this morning, grabbed a badly needed shower, relaxed for a while and decided I needed a ride.

Soon I had my leather jacket, boots and gloves on over my bib-overhauls and was enjoying some time on my son's Ducati Monster.

Rode for a while, filled up the tank, stopped at home to put some sea-foam in it for the winter and rode some more. When I got home I sent him this text "I rode your Duc and we both loved it". He sent me back a pic of him on a trail on his mountain bike somewhere in Ohio.  Grin

I've got some work to get done around home, a 1911 waiting on Burnt Bronze Ceracote, and a couple of new guns that need picked up by their new owners, then I'll head back to the tent for a while. Will hunt around home in the mean time.

Life will be over soon enough, and we don't get any "do overs". Do what you're passionate about while you can.

I was hoping I'd get to hunt with my pal in KS again this year but it wasn't in the cards.  Thanksgiving  happening instead. I still have venison in the freezer however but it's more than just getting the meat.  Life seems to move much faster and I know it won't be long I won't be able to hunt.  Like my pal who needs help.  Others will help him so it's just my loss.  I did want to try out my M1A on the hunt this year though.  I could hunt here in CO but it's a big deal if you go to the mountains.  Hunting here near me, well these mulies are so tame I could hit them with a rock. Too easy.  Not much of a hunt.  This is out my back window - and not a telephoto.  That post with the lexan is the hot tub towel pole.

Neat pic, that one in the middle looks to have a nice rack but I'm with you on the easy targets. Takes a lot away from the hunt when you don't have to stalk, etc. It's a test of your skills as a hunter, that's what makes it a good hunt, at least in my viewpoint.  cooldude

Sounds like a great time. I haven't hunted since my last visit home to AK 6 years ago.  tickedoff

I've been winter camping and hunting from the family deer camp for nearly 30 years. Have never missed a year since I started. It was originally just a tepee. Then came the old military surplus tents such as the one we still use. It's too rotten now to take down so we leave it up year round. We just cover the top with a tarp when it's time to hunt. We have a wood burner in it but water will freeze just a few feet from the stove when it's cold. Coyotes sometimes seem to howl just outside the canvas. It's got a dirt floor but we put mats down in front of our cots to keep our feet and socks clean. There are deer skulls hanging in it and deer skulls hanging on it. In the summer time you can find some big snakes in there. And sometimes it seems to be the best place on this earth.  cooldude

it is sure nice to have deer hunting land.  Ours got taken away some 25 years ago when the old lady landowner passed been hunting it before I was born some 50 years now.  We offered her son 10 bucks each person (over 10 of us) some 25 years ago to keep hunting the land.  Him being a lawyer type (actually I think he was a lawyer)  said NOT enough, wanted at the time 50 bucks per person.  Sorry, but 500 bucks or more I can buy a lot of meat.  Was the best land to hunt literally seeing 50-80 deer in a herd almost every single year and well over 100 deer per year going almost everyday some 40 miles away or so.

Now,  I shoot to kill do not care to get the big buck.  As long as it does not have spots (LOL),  I will shoot it since lucky to see one deer per season mostly public hunting grounds which suck.    Good hunting land surely spoils you so when you do not have it anymore, you miss it dearly.

toyhauler sounds nice, but gotta get out and use it like said is the key.  Wouldn't it be nice to just pack up and leave for a week or two or three on a whim to somewhere you always wanted to go, preferably warmer weather?

I was going to buy a nice used one was older needed some TLC, but the price was decent.  Decided to skip it knowing full well that big 25 footer would just sit alongside my house just like my new enclosed basic trailer is doing now that I bought instead being 2600lbs. vs. that monster, older toyhauler weighing 5000lbs.  PLus,  my enclosed trailer has more useable storage inside lengthwise which is full now that the toyhauler would not fit it all inside not long enough storage area.  I told the wife we can use the open enclosed trailer just fine for 1-2 nights stay somewhere pulling it sleeping on blow up air mattresses, but she did not go for that - YET anyways.     As long as roof over your head inside,  I see no reason to have all the extras since can bring along my propane heater and cooker and for showering some campgrounds have shower facilities to use and wash up.  A bathroom sink washing up face, hair etc. daily is good enough for 2-3 days.   I can get buy without a full showering for 2-3 days changing clothes is all, but the wife not so much.    Grin

Your post had me confused for a few seconds, talking about deer hunting and paying someone in bucks.  I was wondering how long it would take a hunter to legally provide someone else with 10 (or 50) male deer.  uglystupid2

One buck a year in Indiana so it would take a while.  Grin
