80 years ago, young scared kids were storming the beaches of Normandy.  60 years ago, they were being thrown into the middle of the Korean War. 50 years ago, scared, young and brave kids were fighting against the Vietnam Cong. Today kids are scared and upset because their candidate did not win for President of the United States. What has this country become? What will they tell their children?

We have plenty of young people that have been subjected to multiple deployments in very dangerous places. I think they are just as brave as the previous generations.

Head of Massachusetts Teachers Association calls for statewide safe-space day
By Evan Lips | November 16, 2016, 16:40 EST

NORTHAMPTON — Barbara Madeloni, head of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, has called on union members to join together to make Nov. 22 a day to “let students and parents know that love trumps hate, that we welcome all students and their families, and that we will provide places of safety in our classrooms, schools and colleges.”

The safe-space declaration came roughly a week after Republican Donald Trump claimed the presidency.

“From college campuses to elementary schools, organize to declare your buildings and campuses safe spaces,” Madeloni wrote.“Next Tuesday, please welcome your students to school with signs of love and support that speak to how we cherish their differences and how we will protect their right to be themselves, to feel safe and in charge of their bodies and identities, and to tell their stories.”

This is wonderful! A safe space for all the Trump supporters! Woo Hoo!

I'll bet the story of "How I voted for Trump!" will be received well.

Wanna have some fun?

Go into a Starbucks in a college town, and when they ask your name tell them "President Trump"

When your $9 coffee is ready, they'll have to announce "President Trump" on the PA, causing all the special snowflake millennial students on their laptops to burst into tears, curl up in the fetal position and start looking for their pacifiers.

Yep.  The original safe space was called a commune where they practiced sex, drugs, and rock and roll.  Now it is a pacifier.

My son's school ( he is 14 ) held a mock election and he said vote was 74 percent Trump while Mrs C got less than 25 percent.  There is still hope.

On a more serious and introspective note, I kind of wonder if humanity NEEDS a major devastating event (War, famine, major disease outbreak) every 50 years or so just to weed out the weakness and softness.

Seems to be a pattern through history, the strong build a civilization, it flourishes, it's successful, after a few generations it goes soft and is overrun , or slowly decays and withers on the vine.

Please note, I'm not saying I WANT a WWIII or Black Death level plague, I'm saying I wonder if it's part of human nature that, without such an event, our we wither.

(And before someone says it, yeah we've had some people in a war situation the last 15 years, and I fully accept that to those who went it was every bit as traumatic as WWII was to those who were there, but the sheer numbers are on a completely different plane.)

In this episode of Dragnet which aired March 7, 1968 titled “The Big Departure”, a few teenagers want to start their own country on an island off the coast of California. When they are caught stealing from local stores to fund their efforts, Jack Webb has THIS to say to them.

As usual this generation isn't being made to deal with real life. This type of molly coddling is exactly what's wrong with these  kids, definitely not all but some.

I can't get a grip on this at all. For cryin out loud, play dough and coloring books in a group setting.  How does this build character, self esteem and even self worth? This is a big pile of enabling, and as usual the tail wagging the dog.

These people are are worried about Trump? What will it be when they run the boat?

Unfortunately our children are at the mercy of the school system which has been taken over by the federal gov't.  I say it all the time, when the gov't pays for education (uses federal tax dollars) the gov't controls what the kids are taught (Major reason I am against "free" education).  I am soooooo in favor of the voucher program where the schools compete by providing better education.

The Democrats stopped the voucher program, giving the insane reason that not all of the kids will receive the vouchers so it's not fair.  So, if some kids are forced to go to failing and dangerous schools then all of them must go to failing and dangerous schools.  Just ANOTHER way to keep the citizens stupid, which the Democrats rely on for votes.  Keep them down, promise them the world, and they'll follow blindly.

They have essentially brainwashed our children.  Here's the latest example:

Via ABC News:

San Francisco's public schools have been offered a classroom lesson plan that calls President-elect Donald Trump a racist, sexist man who became president "by pandering to a huge racist and sexist base."
The union that represents city teachers posted the plan on its website and distributed it via an email newsletter to its more than 6,000 members. The school district has more than 57,000 students.

The lesson plan was written by social studies teacher Fakhra Shah, who said she hadn't planned for it to spread citywide — that was a step taken by the teachers' union. She wrote it at 2 a.m. Nov. 9, just hours after news networks declared Trump had won, to help teachers at her school struggling with how to answer students' questions and concerns about his becoming president.

"I think a lot of people were lost for words, wondering, 'What do we say? What do we do?' " said Shah, whose Latino, African American, white, Muslim and LGBTQ students are worried about a surge in hate crimes since the election.

"We're calling him out," she said. "If he's our president, I have the right to hold him accountable and ask him to take a stance that is anti-hate and anti-racist."

I work at an inner city college and the biggest problem are administrators and 90% of faculty.  I've listened to the president of the college read off a list of people killed by police and calling for a moment of silence with never a mention of police officers or service men killed in the line of duty.  I've read email after email from faculty members coddling students anytime anything controversial happens.

Our school even has a policy that it is ok for students to be drunk or high in class as long as they don't cause problems. The student senate even requested that the administration reverse those policies and the administration refuses.

Until our education system is reformed and actual education happens in our schools nothing will change.

I agree with you, though I want to continue living in a relative paradise and

They wont be running the boat. It's going to be the kids from private schools. I drive for 3 different ones.

I never hear any conversations about reality TV, entertainment personalities etc. Of course there's sports talk when I drive sports teams.

Just recently I drove a middle school football team. Two of the boys seated near me were talking about Warren Buffet and his strategies involving soda companies and how Coke blew it by not buying Gatorade.

I've also found test papers on the buses with questions I know I couldn't have answered their same age. Questions involving Geo-politics, world history etc.

I get a thank you from most every student, male or female when the leave the bus. This is drilled into them from kindergarten. It isn't said grudgingly.

So there is great hope for the USA.

If only government schools could teach the same leadership.

The public schools have literally gone to the dogs.

I have every intention of helping my son send my grand daughter to a private school.

It would be good if the Republicans can get the school vouchers approved.

Best thing that could happen it to just eliminate the Dept. of Education and turn it back entirely to the states and communities.  Money is much better spent next to home.  This has been talked about since Reagan's days but never even started.  Just policy wonks that write papers and some politicians with ever ending empty promises.  I guarantee this would be huge and extremely effective.

My son went to public school for two years in middle school.  He played on a couple of the teams so I was at the school frequently during that time.  Walking through the hallways, I'd hear the kids calling each other the N word, the B word, the MF word, in front of teachers and school staff, and nothing was done or even said.  It was like the employees, all adults, didn't hear it.  I mentioned this to my wife recently, my son was there.  He said they do it also at the all boys Catholic HS he attends now.  I said, maybe, but at least they're smart enough to know when to turn it off.  And the kids are all very polite when I get volunteered to drive one or two home after practice or a game.

The staff and coaches don't let anything like that happen.

What I also forgot to mention is that when the kids are on the bus they will sometimes play music and it's always "old" music like Zeppelin, U2 etc. Never heard any crap or hippity hop.

Even if they break into song as the cheerleaders sometimes do it will be "old" soul music like the Supremes.
