She was doing a report on the Korean War and my name came up.

She was very attentive and was really interested in my humble effort as an Army corporal in a medical outfit. I was motivated and relieved to know that not all of today's students are 'snowflakes' with no sense of responsibility and of a 'delicate' nature.  It was a very nice evening and I was reassured that , in this case, the Korean War was not forgotten, and also that we still have students interested in our country's history.

The icing on the cake came up in the conversation. She, the student, has engaged in the shooting sports and enjoyed it. Smiley

I have no idea if she is enrolled at a public or a private school but I liked her attitude.

Like Paul, Britman, I do have faith in the youth of our era (discounting IVY league colleges and the State of California)

I've learned from experience with my dad it's okay to tease 'em about their age... They might get upset, but they'll forget all about it in just a few minutes...

But seriously, refreshing to hear about this Wayne! Glad to hear you had an eager audience to tell your experiences to.

I'll admit, I was an idiot. My grandfather was a submariner in WWII, and unlike most, he loved to talk about it.

I was a spoiled brat who didn't care to hear the old man's war stories.

We lost him when I was 12.

I'd give dearly to have a few hours and a video camera with him now.

Funny you should mention this Wayne Got an E-mail yesterday from a gal I ride P G R with. She is a retired E-6 Sargent from the Army and sends a lot of informative stuff. Look up on youtube Rishi Sharma. He is 18 and interviewing all the WWII vets he can find. Had to pause his video more than once cuz of water. Happy the young uns-well some of them-are taking an interest. Take care Wayne and I Know you won't be sorry looking up this Sharma guy! RIDE SAFE.

Dennis, we have a lady here in this area who regularly interviews WWII vets and publishes the interviews in the local paper.  Her husband was in the Service and both are patriots.  She greets all Honor flights and has been the guardian for two Women veterans on the Honor Flights.  I have been interviewed by her and both her and her husband have attended our Korean War chapter meetings.

She currently has a book on the interviews of WWII vets and it's available on Amazon. Her name is Kayleen Reusser and the book is World War II Legacies  When I was on the Honor flight I also met Kayleen's daughter, who lives in DC.  Her daughter is also a gracious and interesting person.

I guess, despite all the headlines, we can still find those that stand for the National Anthem and respect our country and the vets.
