Just saw the news that Fidel Castro is no more...

Will be interesting if the nation he lorded over for so long will throw off the shackles he put on them or if they will snuggle up in the comfort of the chains they were now that they've been freed of their oppressor.

I think the door to Cuba will continue to swing open under Raul's rule...

I agree, I think the current Cuban leadership sees the opportunity to financial independence through tourism and bringing in American investment.    Obviously, that just an opinion but, I hope relations improve.   Some day, I think I'd like to visit Cuba.  (I think)

Hopefully they'll build a bridge so I can ride there.   I know, it'd be a very long bridge.  Wink

As I remember, no official from the Obama administration attended Margaret Thatcher's funeral.  I wonder if they'll send someone to Castro's?

Gosh it is so good to finally have a Pres. to soon be on board that gets it, and is not afraid to say so.

3 short paragraphs that wrap up what this despot tyrant was and the new hope for the future of Cuba

At the risk of showing my ignorance. Ever since you posted this thread yesterday I've been trying to figure out what the phrase "shuffles off this mortal coil" means ? It just doesn't register with me.  ???

Didn't remember - had to look at wiki:
Mortal coil is a poetic term that means the troubles of daily life and the strife and suffering of the world. It is used in the sense of a burden to be carried or abandoned, such as in the phrase "shuffle[d] off this mortal coil" from the "To be, or not to be" soliloquy in Shakespeare's Hamlet.

'E's passed on! This dictator is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't put 'im in a glass coffin 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-DICTATOR!!
