New poll results show America is a deeply divided nation
http://www.aol.com/article/news/2016/11/27/new-poll-results-show-america-is-a-deeply-divided-nation/21615216/

Most Americans think that the U.S. is more divided this year, and many also feel dissatisfied with democracy in the country, according to a new poll conducted by CNN and ORC International.

A report about the results shows that participants were asked a number of questions including one which read, "Do you think the country is or is not more deeply divided this year on the major issues facing the country than it has been in the past several years?"

Eight-five percent answered, "Yes, more deeply divided" compared to 76 percent in January 2013.
They were also asked, "Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with the way democracy is working in this country?"

Fifty-eight percent responded that they were "dissatisfied" which is similar to the result in February 2010.

Interestingly, people were evenly split in their thoughts about the Republican control of the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives, with 49 percent saying it will be good for the country and 49 percent indicating it will be bad.

The report notes that the results were based on telephone interviews conducted this month with just over a thousand adult Americans.

Draw your own conclusions.   I don't know that a survey of a thousand phone interviews is reflective of the nation as a whole but, it is an indicator.     I sincerely believe there are some among us who are trying to drive a wedge in the American people in order to destroy this nation.   There are forces that would love to bring this nation to it's knees.    Whether that be another nation or someone like George Soros.     Continued division will eventually lead to bloodshed.   Such an event will spread across the nation.

My perception is that we are now a divided nation, more than I have ever seen in my lifetime.

I think that it has been accelerated by President Obama and the prostituted mass media.  Obama set the tone by falsely accusing the law enforcement arm at the beginning of his presidency before he knew the facts.  This, in turn, brought out all the opportunists, both in the liberal press and  the fame and money seekers like the racist Sharpton.  Adding to the mix are the colleges preaching liberal ideas to unsuspecting young minds.  Results, PC, cupcakes and snowflakes.

Obama will be gone but the biased media will still be here.   Example............Trump has been called worse than Hitler (A man who was responsible for millions of Jewish deaths),  That claim indicates a lack of knowledge of history or just plain lying. a falsehood in extreme, while the same media is now pointing to Fidel Castro as an excellent example of the best in Socialism, evidently Communism is not a correct word.   They are now pointing out his model of education for the masses, while denying the thousands of those same masses executed for reasons only clear to Fidel Castro and his brother.

The only thing that I am certain of is that the Media cannot be trusted to report the Truth.

Not placing blame. But an honest observation, perhaps it's time for an amicable divorce?

Irreconcilable differences.

Roughly 40% of us want to go in one direction, roughly 40% want to go in a diametrically opposed direction, with 20% in the middle that can't make up their minds.

Perhaps it's time to start talking about how to do a friendly split instead of waiting for a violent one to happen.

I think that maybe it's a good idea for all of us to stop posting political before PMS really starts.  We'll never agree.

I'm going to start looking at postings from our southern riders this season.

An event such as you're suggesting is most assuredly going to end on one side paying the other alimony.    I doubt the red states would be in favor of such support to those that voted blue in the last election.   Wouldn't be long before one side got very hungry and most likely violent.

Agreed, but ya' know why alimony is so expensive?

...because it's worth it.

One way or another we're gonna pay it, if we stay in an abusive relationship then the takers will take as they've always taken. If we stay together the takers will just vote themselves more of the product of our labors. At least if we have an organized split, we could work out a system for a one time payoff to make them go away.

Besides, if the blue side decides to get violent, what are they gonna do, attack with safety pins and hurtful words?

Yeah, you're right -- it's just a coincidence that this country is more widely and deeply divided than any time I can recall after nearly 8 years under the most progressive liberal president -- and arguably one of the most unpatriotic -- we've ever had. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with that.

Obama had the opportunity to bring everyone closer but he chose the opposite and even more seperated the nation. Instead of standing up for what was right, he backed the BLM movement and even condoned violence toward police officers. He stood on stage and blamed these officers for being murdered. You tell me how that wasn't dividing the country.

If it makes you guys feel any better, it's not just the US that is divided.

Half of Canada thinks our PM is an idiot, half drool over him. Same could be said for a lot of European countries.

After any given election, half the population won't be happy.

In Canada, with our first-past-the-post electoral system, our Liberal PM got a massive majority with only 39% of the popular vote, the exact same percentage of the Conservatives previous to that.

Personally I could handle the "divorce" with Eastern Canada. A friendly divorce where you still talk, still can ally on trade, military missions and other important things like world hockey tournaments...but run by separate governments.

We are more alike than we want to admit. When we get mad because something didn't go our way we become very combative. Sad to say but it seems we need a 9/11 event to remind us who our enemies really are. Once again, the media we all love to hate, drives a lot of this with incessant picking apart very comment made by every talking head they can train their cameras on. I wish we as "friends" with a common interest could remember that for the most part we all want the same things. Freedom, liberty, peace, good health for ourselves and our families and a better life for our kids and grandkids.

Be a part of the solution not a contributor to the problems we face as the best nation on the face of the planet.

For me, the most noteworthy single thing (linchpin) is the left's lack of a comprehensive, cogent platform on the issues.   All during the primaries, campaign and election, the conservative candidates ran on very specific things like secure the borders, enforce immigration law, stop rampant influx of illegals, reduce taxes, revise the tax code, improve the military, return manufacturing and jobs for the common man, become energy self sufficient.... and so on.  Things any thinking man would find hard to disagree with.

While the left candidates had some ideas about free college and some other things, the single most strident, oft repeated message they had was .... attack the right.  Call them bigots, racists, islamophobes, sexists, haters, close minded, and dangerous.  Organize rallies and have everyone screaming and yelling and disrupting the other side's rallies.  The MSM picked up (or lead the way) on this.  Demonize the enemy.  Pick out each and every statement that did not conform perfectly to political correctness and run with it for a week with the talking heads explaining with guest speakers how this kind of thing showed the candidate to be ignorant and dangerous.

You certainly did not see left candidates saying that Zero's actions were all perfect examples of a great platform for the nation.  Open the borders to any and all illegals, transport them in secret to various states and let them loose, stop enforcement of existing immigration laws and procedures, catch and release convicted felons.  Make a vast social experiment of the US military, and gut it.  Spend vast sums of money on alternative energy, and have billions simply disappear with no results, then never go after anyone for outright fraud.  Have a foreign policy no one can understand, and cause all our allies to wonder what the hell we are doing.  Attempt to join the globalization (one-world govt) program, endorse treaties and other programs destined to give away large segments of national sovereignty (in violation of the constitution) to the UN.  Introduce a socialised form of heath care insurance law backed by lies and falsehoods that is entirely unworkable, ruins healthcare, reaches into every aspect of our lives, and results in a trillion dollar unfixable mess. Allow (encourage) vast Fed agency regulators to run amok, with books of new regs that collectively served to hamstring American business and energy production in a completely non-democratic fashion.  Disregard all argument against 10 percent ethanol, and announce that 15 percent ethanol was coming even though NO one wants it.  And always raise taxes, no matter what (because all our policies cost vast amounts of money, and we know how to spend it better than you who earned it do).  And much more.

No one ran on that platform.  No one could.  So with no cogent and comprehensive platform to speak of, the left largely ran on a platform of attack the other side, personally, professionally and every way possible.  Smirking and pointing and deriding and condescending and stirring up their special interest bases (FSA, LBGT, illegals, college children, women, etc).  I call this the temper tantrum platform.  With all the post-election protests and riots and MSM whining and moaning (and now a recount issue), has anyone heard anyone on that side stand up and say... but we have a better platform and plan for our nation?  NO YOU HAVE NOT.

So we are divided yes.  But there is only one side which has a platform and program designed to follow the rule of law and place America and American citizens first.  Only one side has a program that any thinking man can support.  The only platform the left has is.... we don't like your platform, and we don't like you ignorant assholes.

So now we have the presidency and both houses, and we the people (who stood behind you in spite of all the attacks) expect you to get to work in our behalf.  We better see some action and progress in the right direction, across the board.  Get to foking work boys, we are watching closely, and we expect some results.

If you think the left has caused trouble, you haven't seen anything like the trouble we will cause if you continue in the DC business as usual program.

We were, well, I was divided on the last 3 from my family.

The left media's love affair with the first black president and his meddling where he shouldn't have, and his silence where he should have said something was intentionally divisive.  The media should have been all over his mistakes and inaction, instead white men were blamed at every turn.  If not white men, then it was the police who got dumped on.  Folks in the inner cities and poorer neighborhoods were bombarded with intentional Trump misinterpretations and name calling that they never knew the truth.  They didn't HEAR what Trump said on any subject or issue.  They were TOLD what Trump was saying and since EVERYONE who looks like them and who works with them were ALL hearing that he said those things, how could it be wrong?

And now the same screwed up media and ignorant kids are praising Fidel phukin Castro.  Same a$$holes who wear Che Guevera t-shirts.  One moron described his rise to power as "romantic".  Cuba's health care system and education are applauded by these ingnorants as great achievements.  Not real hard to provide health care to a small nation that puts it's indigents and sick into boats and point them towards other countries.  And to provide a good education to someone, but offer him/her no way to use that education because there is no freedom, amounts to torture.

And more stupid people lined up to buy cruise ship tickets when Obama opened up Cuba and asked for NOTHING in return (not even a cop killer).  Stupid gullible people.  Cuba already has vacationers from all over the rest of the world but that money never goes to makes things better for the people.  But the money coming off of US cruise ships will?  The same cruise Ships who have every country EXCEPT the USA painted on the ships as their ports of registries.  And the people stay poor and enslaved.  Can't leave unless they commit a crime or become a medical dependant.  Then they'll put you on a raft and give you a big push.

Jess Gary Evan-would that I were That good with words. Some of Us-and by NO means all of us-but some of Us got cursed tired of the lies and scandals and the "free" crap being given/awarded to folks that for all intents and purposes were no longer contributing to the common good and well being of OUR Country. And the people in deception central just kept pouring gasoline on the blazes "they" started and continued to fan the flames. Far far Too many dead L E Os and far far too many dead citizens. I was in Memphis Tn. in 1964. WHY would we WANT to be steered back to THAT? But that's the feeling I'm getting-regress stead of progress. Even IF Donald Trump as POTUS has 2 terms I Believe there is no way in hell he can undo Everything that NEEDS to be undone. I also KNOW the medicine for the fix will NOT taste very good. But I KNOW it will taste better tan what we've been fed the last 8 or more years. RIDE SAFE.

Sorry folks we are not a democracy.
We are a representative republic.

A true democracy can only survive until the majority realizes they can vote them self free stuff.

The founders of this country were very smart folks and knew that a true democracy would never survive.
So they created a representative democratic republic, a true marvel.

And some politicians have been trying to destroy it ever since, be inching it toward a true democracy.

The news service is usually pretty liberal and the article is fair but brings out a good point I thought and I usually don't like their articles very much, but I have their website in my favorites because it helps with keeping up with news in NJ.

Interesting article.

I agree, I didn't see more than a few Trump signs, a few bumper stickers and that's about it.
I, on the other hand, went a slightly different direction. I wanted a Hillary sign for my yard art.

The Kentucky Democratic headquarters, located here would not give me one though.    When asked how I intended to display it, they didn't appreciate my position.    Wanted to post the sign then put a big circle surrounding her name and then put a big red X over her name.

Honestly, I don't think they have a sense of humor over there.   Wink

Jess, that's the best summary of the last 8 years I've read anywhere.  I'll add that I'm also saddened by the increase in racial tension after decades of genuine progress.  Our new administration has a massive job on its hands.

To say we are a DEEPLY DIVIDED NATION is to seriously understate it.... I don't think it will be decreasing anytime soon. Hope it won't break out into much more violence than we have seen so far...
