Looks real nice, atta boy. Too bad they must be too PC to allow a Christmas tree to be erected/decorated. Maybe next year. Sad

I've been training these new guys to start taking over the stuff I have been doing the last 20 years....it's kinda NICE not having to be "at the wheel" on some of this stuff and just step back a little and coach the new guys on how to do it right......really, really like that..... cooldude

I too am somewhat offended by people referring to them as holiday trees.

Truthfully, though, they were originally yule trees.  That predated the acceptance of Christmas in Europe.  Like so many others it was a pagan tradition that was adapted to Christianity in Europe.  Even Christmas itself was originally a pagan celebration that was adapted by early Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ which most likely occurred in the Spring.

To me Christmas is a good time for me to remember and celebrate the nativity of Jesus Christ.  I participate in a lot of the traditions but I don't bother kidding myself about their origins.

What you can't see is that there's a very large 5" wide, 1" thick choker strap rated for over 20,000lbs wrapped around the tree......I'd be willing to bet something on the truck would break before the strap would, but yes, an accident could happen any time......so far, 20 years of good luck......of course wrestling a 2 ton+ tree onto the back of a boom truck isn't easy or 100% safe under any conditions....just glad we got it on their with only a couple of broken limbs.....that we were able to "repair"....... cooldude

Here are a few more pics of the day we started decorating it......my Groundskeeper is in the small bucket truck.....I'm training the newer folks on how to do this stuff so that I can step back soon......nice to not HAVE to be stuck in the tree anymore.....it was fun for maybe the first couple of years, now it's just a job.......

I still would not be standing directly underneath that massive tree using instead a rope wrapped around the base standing alongside the tree more so.  But, we all know Steamers has balls of steel,  or in this case balls of holly.   Grin

Man,  they sure mention your name a lot in those pics.  You must be a very important team leader am sure.    Glad you worked your way up the ladder to do more supervisory roles letting more often the youngens do more of the grunt work.  Modern machinery though makes it so much better/easier.

In an effort to not offend anyone they offend Christians.

My apologies...  this isn't keeping with a positive topic.

Cold time, gift to children, non-denominational, neutral, non-specific, inoffensive, eat too much,
morale event.
That's what we have here.
I still say "Merry Christmas".
However, I have worked on and quite perfected a great, "BAH HUMBUG".

One of my favorite Christmas stories;
We stopped at a yard sale. The kid was about 10, with Down's syndrome.
I said  "Bah humbug" and he laughed. The more I said it, the more he laughed.
We sat and we worked on his "BAH HUMBUG".
When we left, after about an hour, he had it. As deep, and authoritative as a 10 year old could get it.
