I was still on the Yorktown and we were taking part in a joint military exercise. America-Great Britain-Australia-Japan and the Philipines and I may be leaving out a country or three. Anyway we had gotten our launch of A/C off and as I was proceeding aft along the port side I caught a glint of light off of a canopy. I believe it was an F-86 of the J S D F-Japanese Self Defense Force. I'm on the flight deck and he approached from aft going forward along our port side and I was looking DOWN into the cockpit when he flashed by. He was rippling the water behind him and shortly after he passed I got the jet exhaust smell. I find myself Still looking up when I hear aircraft.  coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

I was on the USS Independence and we were on a cruise around South America as part of a home port change from Norfolk VA to San Diego CA and as part of the plan, they flew dignitaries out to visit the ship and we were having an air show almost every day. And with each air show it seemed the folks doing the flying were getting more "comfortable". As part of the show , there was a supersonic fly by as part of the show and the plane seemed to be closer to the ship and going faster each time, until one time when he came by...he cracked some glass, including the 2 thick panes in the jet engine test cell...very cool....as a jet mech in the navy I love airplanes...and my wife , as an engineer for Boeing and working on the CH-47 Chinhook, AH-6 Apache and V-22 Osprey, she loves planes too

Growing up my Dad was Air Force. Back in the 60 security was a little lax compared to nowadays. My Dad used to take me and my brother to the hanger with him every once in awhile. We crawled all over those airplanes, they were like a jungle gym to us. To this day, if you blindfolded me I could tell by the smell that I was in a military plane. Went through A&P school and decided I didn't really want to work on airplanes, but love them thing. Used to have a base here before they shut it down, that had a squadron of A-10s. Used to love watching those guys play out over the ocean.

Not a fixed wing jet, but helicopter.  One time I flew one from EL Paso to Ft Hood with a 50 knot tailwind. Ground speed was a solid 150 knots.  Not bad for a AH1G Cobra. Refuled in Midland, and landed with low fuel light on.
