If anyone is interested, Barry from Big Bike Things has just finished a small run on his seat rails. I've been in contact with him since last spring and he's just finished them. They'll probably be available on his website next week, if not sooner.

I purchased one from the first run. There is a "V" shape at the center (rear).
When it arrived, there was (is) a little chip of chrome lifted and oxidation forming
at the bottom of the "V." Sad

I called him and he said he'd exchange it for a new one and offered to pay for all the shipping.
Instead of going back and forth w/shipping we agreed on a lower price ($110).

He told me that whereas he resides in the US the item is made in Australia.
Good and honest guy. Wink

My Valk is set up as a solo rider, (OME SEAT), but with the rail, she, the passenger seats behind me
in the rider's seat. Like in the old days, she uses the rail to hold on for dear life! Embarrassed

It feels good and cozy without the need for a passenger seat. I've actually done it w/o the rail as well.
The only problem with this arrangement is the bumping of the helmets against one another.

I wonder if that is illegal these days.  tickedoff police

NOTE: If you install the rail on a Tourer, you might have some clearance problems when raising the
lid. The open lid might not clear the rail... not so with I/S' saddlebags. Wink
It is perfect for a Super Valk.  cooldude

With my Mustang bags, there's definitely clearance issues with raising the bag lids.  You can still get in the bag, but they'll only open up about 6 to 8 inches or so.

It might be a little different with OEM bags.

    Man oh man Baldo,
Your post went up on the 14th @ 13:00. I saw your post on the 16th @ 08:30. Went to the web site and gone with the wind. Out of stock!  Embarrassed
Left a note to contact me if they become available. Snooze you lose! In my note I asked him if those rear fender rails may be available. They are featured in every pic showing the seat rails. I have my fingers crossed.
Thanks for the heads up on the seat rails!

That's good to know. I have LeatherLyke bags, hinged on the outside. Shouldn't be a problem.... Smiley

Two of you on the single seat! You both must be pretty thin. My rotund butt takes up pretty much the whole thing....lol.

He makes them out of stainless rod now, no chrome involved. He was aware of those issues and made some changes. It should look real nice.

I bought one of his stainless steel seat rails. looks good as chrome.
I've got a pic of it on my bike. Not going to try and post the pic. If anyone wants to post it, e-mail me and I'll send you the pic.
I have LeatherLyke bags for my bike and there's no problem opening them.

Hi all, it's been many years since I last posted anything on this site. With regard to the seat rails, I'm the guy who makes them, as well as all of the other stuff available on my website.
Of the short run of rails which I've recently made, I think there "may" be 1 or 2 left, not quite sure until I check (been away for the weekend). In saying so, I am aware that there are more guys who want a rail, and probably should have made more (hindsight is a wonderful thing) .... so, let's get past the festive season and I'll make some more, hopefully early in the new year.
I'm also planning on making some of the forward control kits. I've already got a list of names of those who are interested in a set. If you're perhaps interested, let me know and I'll add your name to the list and will email you when they're available....just tell me what version of the f/controls you're interested in please, I'll then get a rough idea of the quantities I need to make.
Just to add a bit of info, someone has already mentioned that the rails are now made in stainless steel, (and other products as well) highly polished, and with that comes the big benefit of no more chrome peeling or blemishing problems etc, glad I decided to make the change.

Happy holidays to all...

Just a headsup, fellas. I received my seat rail from Barry. It is absolutely beautiful. I'll be putting a Russell on in the spring, and this will really dress it up.

I hope everyone that wanted one was able to score. There has been a lot of interest shown, it looks like there'll be more coming in the new year...... cooldude cooldude

When I purchased mine, it was suppose to fit only the Mustang seat or the OME seat. Undecided
However, I seen photos wherein it's used with other seats. Smiley

I had this set up on my "Standard"  Smiley but had to remove the rail  Sad when I got the "Tourer" bags as the lids will not lift with the rail installed. "Interstate" bags have no issue with the rail due to the lift off lids.

Baldo,
I thought this seemed familiar. I dealt with Barry on a set of forward controls a few years ago.
He's a nice guy with a good quality product.

You can change the Tourer lids hinges over to IS hinges and have no problems.

Seat rails not only look good (and unique) but are a great handhold for moving the bike around on foot (rock solid), and a bungee cord support for gear on the solo rack.

Only downside is extra work to get the shocks off; but not bad.

Yes, he was great to work with. I gently prodded him for 6 months or so to put out a few rails, now he'll build more due to the interest shown....

I might talk to him about forward controls in the near future..... cooldude

I purchased one of the seat rails from Barry. Very happy with his product. Haven't installed it yet. Bike stored and covered and for me it would just be a tease. So I will wait. I have a KBB seat and Barry said it will not be a problem.
On the other hand I bought but did not install my Tourer hinges. Guess my procrastination paid off. I have found owning one of these great bikes, you quickly accumulate stuff(parts, odds and ends).
One more thing. I put a bug in Barry's ear to make a few fender rails. He has not said he will Seems like a natural to buy a seat rail and a fender rail. Extra voices I am sure will help the cause!
