Every morning, for years, I always turned on my desk top and pulled up this forum first.
I no longer do that. Now it's local news, national news, Facebook, Ohio VRCC board, credit union, gun forum, and then, maybe, the VRCC main board.
As I don't ride any more, I guess, that that might account for some of it. However, I'm always reminded of the friends that I have gained on this board.
Frankly, i miss the friendliness, but for me, something has changed. Maybe it's the change for some of the members who have gone on beyond the Valkyrie and are riding a different bike.. Maybe, it's because not as many post about rides. I don't know.
Maybe it's the latest "Reagan post" with more rehashing.
Yes, I know that it always has been a 'general board"

Everything changes, nothing stays the same, right?
Whether good or bad, this site is still my first.
Even the tech stuff is mostly rehashed, our bikes are 13-20 years old, so just about everything that will happen has.
When this board was introduced, our bikes were relatively new and everything was a discovery.
As far as product based web sites go, this one is still one of the best, with a mix of helpful vets and a few scattered new-b's.
Just my humble opinion.

Everything has changed since 9-11. There was a coming together for a time after the attack through the fall of Baghdad and our troops rolling in. Then the quagmire started and we began to turn on each other. First it was the finger pointing then it was more or less a finger in your eye. Compound that with the banking/housing fiasco and the virtual collapse of the auto industry we as a collective people have been stressed to the limit. The 24 hour news media and it's effect on peoples thought processes along with the internet and social media keeps everything right in front of each of us. Even the election of our first black president was a missed opportunity to build a consensus of a shared way forward.
So we come here and dump on each other sometimes, ,,, a lot. It's really unfair to those who are still riding and enjoying the motorcycle lifestyle. I think maybe so many of our conversations are such downers that it affects the majority of posters who could be posting about motorcycle related subjects. I'm guessing many have retreated to the regional boards where maybe more talk of rides and plans for the weekends may take place. I was 47 when I started riding my Valkyrie and now I'm 64 and boy, have I changed! I haven't been about to hold back the changes in my person and have no thoughts of being able to hold back this spinning world we live in. We just have to accept the changes we can't control and make the best of what we have.
All that said we live in what I think is the best place in the world. Our poorest are better off than the majority of the people in the rest of the world. And while we piss and moan over an election outcome, a dictator has been killing his own people and wrecking his largest city. We all just need to try and maintain perspective and remember what is really really important.

I go to email, then Facebook, then the Texas and Tech Forum. If I'm in the mood, take a look at the general board to see how the fight goes between the liberals and conservatives, Britman and the disaster company, etc. The General Forum has always been a free for all. Sometimes, don't like where it goes, but it is what it is. In a way, the general forum seems to be a good subset of the population in general - much more strident in opinions and people's feelings on the sleeve than before. So it goes.
