Livin' Better Side of The Great Divide

On the south shore of what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts, the Pilgrims made landfall and began a permanent settlement of a new world.  What were they thinking and feeling?  They were as brave as those who want to go to Mars.  I salute both adventures for that. Smiley

Two videos on the minds of the Fore Fathers and settlers, it kind of puts in perspective what they were indeed thinking.

"There is nothing like bones to remind you of your heritage", good videos of The Fore Fathers monument

The May Flower Compact

This document ruled America for 150 years.

In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the loyal subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord King James, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, defender of the Faith, etc.

Having undertaken, for the Glory of God, and advancements of the Christian faith and honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the Northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents, solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God, and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic; for our better ordering, and preservation and furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the general good of the colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience.

In witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the 11th of November, in the year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord King James, of England, France, and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth, 1620.

A list of 41 male passengers who signed the document was supplied by Bradford's nephew Nathaniel Morton in his 1669 New England's Memorial. Thomas Prince first numbered the names in his 1736 A Chronological History of New-England in the form of Annals

I saw the subject and thought someone had bored out a Valk engine, adding an extra 100 cc to it...

Thanks for this post Robert. I also thought it was about a punched out 1520. I had no idea that monument existed. Very interesting 15 min. I will watch the other one tonight. What a view from the surrounding homes.
