Finally did a long over due project the Mrs. wanted. New ceiling tile and recessed lighting in the family room in the basement.  Pretty simple and straight forward. Wish they were all this simple. After finishing I got to thinking how nice some music piped in would be. Looking at those pod/can/recessed lights, Im thinking their must be some decent speakers that can be had with the same set up? Any of you done something along those lines? Any suggestions or recommendations?

Don't know about decent, but those ceiling speakers are in just about every retail store in the world.

I would make sure that I mount them to some type of framing, either the ceiling joists or floor above floor joist, or some metal drop ceiling framing.

I've seen DIY's put them (and light fixtures uglystupid2) in the tile only.  Last a couple of months till they start to sag.

While not inexpensive the little Bose speakers would give a much better sound systom. My parents had speakers in there basements dropped ceiling. Old folks music sounded like old folks. Most any thing else the ceiling panels would raddle or vibrate. In a Sheetrock ceiling you would have OK, not good sound.

As I continue to look around, I see a variety of speakers. Don't think I'm gonna drop $$ for the Bose. I've actually found some nice Polk speakers. I've been very happy with the ones I put in my Woody fairing. I have found some ready made brackets for the ceiling issue. Problem is the measurements for what size speaker will fit seems to be all over the place. Combine that with some stiff $$,
I think I will make my own after speakers show up. Thinking that where I put speakers, I will make the tiles 2x2 rather than 2x4 and reinforce the tiles with a sheet of 1/4" luan/plywood
If you have any suggestions for speakers please, speak up. Not set on Polk's yet. I've seen and heard some nice things about Pyle's? Read some good things about some Yamahas' also?
