We are planning a trip to Disney in late September or early October. Plan on staying in one of their resorts. Anyone know how to get good deals on rooms/tickets/or anything. I know there are deals out there but seem hard to find. This will be our first vacation as a family of 4.

I am far from an expert, but I took my wife to DW a few years ago, and we used a local travel agent that sort of specialized in Disney vacations.  She certainly got us a better price, and even had a promotion for s $250 gift card to spend on the grounds.

agree,  some of those travel agencies can get some very good rates.   A lady I use to work with told us about the local travel agent in Gulf Shores Alabama and they found us a nice large 2 bedroom resort right on the beach for a reasonable rate, but the perks were very nice, especially for me.  I could go once per day deep sea fishing and other things but was only good for ONE free thing per day so had to let my 2 kids and wife do something else for free as well.

Just please be careful with kids on the beach with alligators around as what happened to that one young  kid being snatched up by a hungry alligator.   I would not go swimming down there after I saw alligator alley tourist place down by gulf shores alabama.  They hand fed HUGE alligators pretty darn tame though feeding them huge chunks of pig leads bones and all about 2-3 feet away from them is all in the open.  One monster could hear the pig leg bones SNAP and CRUNCH from 30 yards away pretty knarly stuff.  Even walking directly above about 40-50 alligators under a steel bridge walkway about 4-5 feet above them,  I did not feel at ease with dozens of alligators eyeing me for a meal.

I'm no expert but I ive near the land of Mickey and know enough to know there are no "good deals" on property. I suppose there could be some "relatively good deals". Bring your wallet

Look at AirBnB and rent a nice home with a pool for less money. There are plenty available

I mentioned this to the wife but she is stuck on staying in a Disney resort because of the busses that will take you to and from the parks.

do what we did in DC and WALK 3-5 miles per day for one week and come home with blisters on your feet.

If I had to pay 6K for one week in a resort condo/hotel,  I best be having steak and lobster daily and breakfast in bed.

I think the bill in gulf shores AL was like 1100-1200 for the 2 bedroom condo for 6 nights.

AS said,  be prepared to bring your wallet.  The wife wanted to fly to DC for 4 of us vs. driving 18-20 hours or so.  That is where I put my foot down spending 5-6x's or more for airfare vs. driving that far.  I got to see parts of Ohio and W VA and PA that otherwise flying I would never have seen in my lifetime.

Put your big boy pants on and make it reasonable/affordable in the process.

I have been trying to convice the misses to sleep in our enclosed trailer with sleeping bags, etc. vs. spending 1-2 nights in a 100 dollar hotel for a weekend trip ATVing saving a few hundred bucks in the process.  You will not be spending much time anyways in the fancy Disney hotel/condo, so why spend that much dough for just sleeping is about it?

Grin I will be having steak and lobster for that price. That includes the dining plan and it cost you nothing  to eat in the restaurants. There are some that don't accept the dining plan but there are plenty that do.

well, if dining for free, just make sure you bring a set of STRETCH pants or sweatpants or stretchy shorts with nice expandable elastic since gonna be about 15-20lbs. heavier when all said and done.  coolsmiley coolsmiley

I still do not see the need to spend 6K in one week for a hotel when say 2-3K elsewhere would do just as well.

You should probably post this on the Florida board.  There are a whole bunch of folks on there that live all around DW.

Typically September and October are the slowest time of the year, the other time is just after Thanksgiving to the 3rd week in December.

There are deals, just have to watch the Disney site....we have also go great deals working with a friend at AAA.

I have been doing Disney for longer than i can remember. The meal plan is nice, but unless you want to schedule your days around when you have reservations, I would opt for counter service meals, as you can just show up and eat when you are hungry.

Bring money.....lots and lots of money 'cuz you gonna need it. All those parks are overpriced to the extreme but Mickey The Rat takes the prize. I've lived in Orlando 50 years and have never visited it except coming in the back gate on State business. Never been to Universal either except on State business, same for Sea World. Yet, there are thousands every year that blow a wad in those parks, I have better things to do with my money.

Just for comparison, my wife and I took a 3 wk. vacation a few years back before I retired. We pretty much covered the Rockies from southern Colorado to 400 miles north of the Canadian border, and all points in between. Total cost was only slightly more(incl. airfare) than what you're planning for one week in one place, and we saw and did a heck of a lot more.  ???

Its been years but what we did at least 3 times was stay at timeshare (Westgate) just outside the park, but still a drive to get to the parking lot. For the price of the yearly maintenance plus 75 trade fee (maybe 675 total) we had a two bedroom condo for a week with full kitchen that sleeps 8   We drove the caravan and later the grand caravan from ny    Redweek.com lists timeshare condo's for rent for a week.

Then we shop at WinnDixie or PigglyWigly and buy food for breakfast and lunch sandwiches and carried stuff in my backpack into the park  Beer stays cold in the fridge for dad when he comes back with wife and kids  BONUS the backpack gets lighter as day wears on and on  Also some staples we just brought from home like kids favorite cereal and real maple syrup for those pancakes dad makes  Wink

Dont know if you can still do that as the disney meals are extremely pricey feed 5 people lunch for almost 100 dollars is too much IMHO
I could do sandwiches and water bottles for 20 and then take the family for nice dinners or not at the end of the long days or cook in the full kitchen spaghetti or whatever. Also I leave a 24 pack of water bottles in the rear trunkspace (note for meathead- thats where you tried to get lucky with brenda) in cooler with ice so coming home the kids can drink water.

We also did sea world  universal and some water parks while down there

Evan, I'm with you on the condo thing. We've taken the kids and grand kids to Disneyland many times over the years. The last couple times we've rented a house with a pool. Much better for everyone, and worth every penny.

Wife and I spent a week at Ft Wilderness first week of May a few years ago in motor home. Bought tickets on site. 5 days all the parks. Saw what we wanted includes campsite rental a little over 500 bucks.  coolsmiley  As Florida residents we get a significant discount on yearly passes not to all fired expensive  we get offers in mail once every year but never bought one.  Unfortunately those prices are only a dream today. There's got to be deals so shake the bushes, got to be hard with a modest family theses days good luck. They say February,  May, and September  are best price periods.  We were there  in May park was empty.

We talked about that and have used VRBO before. When we go to disney we want an "all inclusive" type of vacation. We wont have to drive anywhere, just use the disney transit system. Don't have to pay to park ect. Plus staying at a disney resort you get in parks early and can stay later on certain days at certain parks. Just easier with kids to stay on Disney property.

Already done  cooldude September is one of the slower months. Last time we went it was just my wife and I in october. It was not crowded at all. The longest we waited in line was maybe 20 minutes. They say September is even less crowded. We will see. Thats part of the reason we decided to go during school.
