This reminds me of when I was taking a trip on the bike out to visit my folks in Iowa. Was in Muscatine Iowa at a stop light that would not change and this Harley pulls up beside me. He said to me,, "you think we got enough metal to make this thing change?" I said "I dunno" He then says,, "you know they make these large magnets you can mount under your bike to make the light change" I said "yep,, tried one and kept picking up Harley parts" Then I sped off. No danger of him catching me.

I found myself researching the new 2017 Milwaukee eight in maybe a Street Glide this week. I have a buddy that wants to upgrade from his softail and says he is putting in his order in Feb. when Harley traditionally waives sales tax. All the bells and whistles for over 30k - yikes. I saw a review by Lemmy at Revzilla ( I think he does the best reviews on the internet and has trashed previous Harleys, but as always this is subjective ) on it and he liked it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWizf60iIAsAnyway I started to consider one and............................. just a minute. I just beat my head against the wall a few times to clear it up. What nonsense was I spouting?

In defense of Harleys... They usually catch up while we're refueling...
Gotta love the Valk, can pass just about anything... except a gas station!

I have a real goody buddy who will ride nothing but Harleys, and we rib each other in a fun way. His main edge is when we are riding together and make the first gas stop. I put in 4 gal and he puts in 2. It's all a fun debate but I don't mind.....I didn't buy the Valkyrie for gas mileage!

Back before I bought my Valkyrie I had a 98 Shadow Aero 1100 an rode with two friends most everywhere. One was a diehard Harley and the other had a Honda VTX1800. We all took a trip to Death Valley and had a blast there. At Scottys castle we were all taking in the sights when we noticed some people admiring our bikes when my two friends both said that they were going to stop riding with me because of the bikes I had the oldest and theirs were new and no one even looked at their bikes, only mine. My Shadow had a stock paint color of green and cream ,wide white wall tires ,windshield, buckskin leather corbin seats and matching buckskin colored Leatherlike bags. It was a stunner. The best was the Harley guy had a new red Harley Road King. I got a good laugh from that. A few years later I got my 02 Valk and the Harley rider friend must have gotten tired of trying to keep up with us that he stopped riding with us. He was always bitchin about Honda trying to copy Harley. During that period the VRCC had a rally in Prescott ,Az. and we were riding by the hotel where all the Valks were parked and the wife of the Harley rider asked about the riders there. We said it was a Valk gathering an she just turned her nose up an walked away. My wife was so pissed that she would never ride with them again. Stupid Harley owner.

when I had my VTX1300, and my 1998 1500 Std. on a nice day I called a friend to go for a ride. he said his Harley was in the shop,I said well I have 2 bikes, you have been looking at my Valkyrie for a while now, drive over and I will let you take it for a ride... he did and about 60 miles later when we stopped for a drink, when he got off the Valk. he was all smiles and said I gotta have one of these!!!!!!!! Well long story short, when Honda brought bake the Valkyrie in 2014, I could not resist getting that 1832 motor,WOOOW, and to help pay for it I sold the 1500 to my friend who was happy to get it, since it is the cream over red color, that reminded him of a Indian. Anyway in the past 2-1/2 years we still ride alot... on our short day rides of 150 to 200 miles he usually rides the Harley because most of our other friend ride theirs,BUT, when we set out for a 3 day to 10 day trip, he always rides the Valkyrie. And we have another friend that had a older Goldwing, that found a bought a 1997, bumble bee Valkyrie, so now John rides his Valk more often. I missed having 2 bikes, so have added a second to my garage... 3 months ago I found and got a 1975 original GL1000 Goldwing with only 18,340 miles on it. Thats less than I have on my 2014 Valkyrie,so with alittle touch up and polish that classic will be on the road again, and will be MY short day ride bike... Have already had it out, before the weather closed in, and have had several WOW comments on it, even from some Harley riders that remember the day that bike came out and blew them away..... Looking forward to spring, Happy New Year to all.....................................

One guy I use to work with, now retired, had 3 newer HD's, one was a fully loaded trike 30K or so. Why have 3 HD's well over 15K each is beyond reasoning, isn't 1 or then 2 for a backup enough, why 3? He let me sit on the newest 1-2 year old NON-trike and just the seat hurt my boys in front the front of that seat rode up so high it hurt the boys down below. Fit and finish was very nice though with a cool metallic paint job - still not worth over 20K... Really do not see the need to have 3 HD's total worth about 60 grand or so unless you have tons of money to burn. I could think of millions of other uses for 60K. My neighbor wanting to sell I think will be sitting on his 2003 ultra classic anniversary edition wanting 9.5K for it with around 45000 miles on it or so. He brags up is worth lots more due to 30th anniversary edition but the way I look at it besides the 30th anniversary badging and maybe a different paint scheme, NO difference otherwise from the 100's of other 88 cu. inch ultra classics on the market in the area for sale asking 8-9K in pricing. How many Valk I/S are for sale around us vs. a sea of HD's all copycat clones? My money is on say my Valk I/S for 7K or so.

The fellow I bought my 1st I/S from had 2 Harleys an anniversary Ultra and a fat boy
He had money to burn but I dont think that has anything to do with why a person buys a particular bike
Some people love Harleys because of the image
I get that
Some people love sport bikes because they allow you to ride a certain way, beyond that which a cruiser would allow
Some people just ride because it makes them feel good
I think I am the latter category, I ride because I cant imagine not riding - even though I am not the demon I was when younger and am more of a smell the roses rider now that I know I dont bounce as well as I used to.

Maybe yours, not mine but then I've got a secret I don't tell the HD boys about.
