I rolled through ATL Saturday mid-day. In a cage. Weather was sunny & clear. Passed probably 3000 cars while rocking the Diamond HOV lane.
Caint imagine that place with even the slightest dusting of snow.  uglystupid2

Lived in Atlanta since 1969 ( the burbs, 4 of them ) and have never not been able to go where I wanted to as long as you avoid the Interstates. The only exception was the ice storm of 1973. It was ugly for 3 days. No power. Bring it on Saturday, it is pretty for a while.

Bah.

It will get down to 19 on Saturday night. I think my dawg has
been running around under the house, maybe knocking down
a few insulation batts... I'll have to crawl around under there
and make sure none came down where the water pipes are...

I'm supposed to drive a school bus from north Atlanta to near Clayton GA on Saturday.

Leaving at 11 am and returning between 7 and 8pm.

Don't want to lose the work but I'm hoping they have the sense to cancel.

I've told them once the sun goes down the roads are going to freeze quickly.

If I remember correctly, I got out of Atlanta, heading south to FL, back in 2014, just before all hell let loose.

I do remember it starting to sleet/snow in Macon as I raced thru.

Then, Ga was messed up for days.

Same for me... I might not have attended a few days, but I never missed it! Wink

(But seriously, I was the crazy SOB that drove his little 2 seater sports car 30 miles across Dallas in the snow to get to work back in the day...)

Very few (if any) states below the Mason Dixon Line or from where I sit, the Ohio River have the snow removal equipment and/or the recent (if any) experience driving in icy or snow conditions.    Best plan is to plan on staying home until the roads are cleared.

States that get a lot of frozen precipitation have the equipment and experience, I am glad they do but want no part of either.   I've had all the icy road experience I ever wanted.   I believe, I'm the only person in my rural suburban neighborhood with a snow blower.    Makes me a real popular guy when these events occur.  Wink

I can deal with just about any amount of snow, within reason of course.

It is the ICE storms that no one can handle driving in much unless you have spikes or snow chains on your tires and none I know have that on their every day daily driver vehicles.

Even my blizzak snow tires are not very good on ice, but does help some just a tad.

Worst snowstorm I drove to work in was in the 1990s about 18-19 inches still coming down blizzard in my rear wheel drive near bald tires 1978 buick skylark and left 20 minutes early normal 35 mile commute still got to work on time when over 1/2 the office who lived in town some 5-10 miles away never made it in.  Just gotta keep the tires MOVING and go just fast enough to not come to a stop say going uphills getting a run at it sometimes before coming to a rural country road going uphill.  I was bucking snow bottoming out dozens of times but the V6 with 150K miles on it still plowed on thru it, just barely.   Roll Eyes

I see though some of these freak snowstorms some 25-30 inches or more at once and wonder how the world they go anywhere for at least a few days before getting unburied out.

3-4 inches in GA should be no biggie, it is the ICE that is dangerous.

Hellish storms here over the last couple days.  I shoveled over a foot today, digging out driveway, vehicles, path around home --all day job.  Literally running out of places to put the snow.  Up to 20" expected overnight tonight.  Undecided Probably
2 1/2 feet on the roof right now, gotta get up there ASAP and clear vents so we don't suffocate.  -17 expected Friday night, woodpile is buried.  To old for this chit, need a snowblower.  Life in the Rockies -- sometimes it's downright brutal.

That's pretty funny. I've driven over three mountain passes in Colorado during a blizzard in
a geo metro. But nobody can drive on ice, like we get here.

We normally get snows of 4-8" at a time.  Comes down, then driveway shoveled once and roads clear within a day.  Not a bad place.  That is till this last storm.  Started snowing Tuesday morning, not hard but snowed all day.  Shoveled 4 times, taking off 2-4 inches each time.   Woke up to 7 + inches Wednesday morning.  Totaled out to around 14" of white on the ground.  Not much moving as the snow plows were trying to open up the main streets.  This is more snow at one time than we got total two winters ago.

According to my kid, who had to work at hospital, lots of idiots in small cars trying to make it through the snow.  She has a SUV and grew up in Wyoming.

As far as Global Warming goes, the folks claiming human Caused warming, say that any weather event shows that there is human global warming.   Whether its extreme cold, extreme heat, or too much moisture or not enough.  It is all caused by us.   Of course any such weather event 50 years ago was just weather.  Personally, I could us some warming as its now 1 degree out side.

Like the mini ice ages when there were no humans caused by Global/Change/Warming/Climate.

How do so many get duped?

Change the terminology from Global Warming to Climate Change and the easily duped nod their drooling slack jawed heads.

Yes - we in NC are supposed to get from2-8 inches of snow, (or more) - depending on how close the low off the coast is and how much will be sleet as well (or instead of snow). The worst part however - will be the cold - we're expecting a low Sunday AM of 4 F - it doesn't get that cold here very often, and to top it off - 72 hours straight of below freezing temps. (yes - we're wimps here now).

The all time low temperature for Raleigh is -9 in 1985 - I do NOT want to break that record.

And most NC drivers can't handle snow either - those of us that came from somewhere else usually stay home just to avoid them.

Dunno. I got all mine Wednesday.

Bottle of Watkins Select Maple Bourbon

1 1/2 lb Boerewors -  a type of sausage popular in South African cuisine. The name is derived from the Afrikaans word boer (farmer) and wors (sausage). Made from beef and pork.

Dinner plate sized pecan pie.

Various fruit and veg.

I'll be good for a couple of days.

Oh and I filled up the gas tank on the car cause I was at about a 1/3rd.

The fun will start at lunchtime when the schools let out early and a lot of business's will close. Traffic is going to SUCK!

Atlanta got 3" in 2014 and it closed everything for days.  I doubt things will improve concerning the 3" now expected.

Where oh where is al gore when you need him.

NYS has more snow this season already than all of last winter and a lot of the country is about to get slammed from what I see.

We got around a inch this morning and round two coming in tonight that they claim will bring more. I got out in my 4X4 this morning to go get breakfast and pulled a Kia car out of the ditch on my road a couple around 20 with a little girl . They offered to pay I told them I wasn't helping them for money and to pass it on .
