They keep saying how many millions have signed up for O care but how is that helpful if there are so many that cannot afford the health insurance because the subsidy is set to low? The subsidy actually stops if you make over 30k a year and the price of the insurance is so high if you are barley making it on what you earn then how can you afford health insurance. Plus if you cannot afford health insurance then why should you pay a penalty you cannot afford? Then it drives up the cost for us who have health care to a point that it almost becomes unaffordable. Before ACA my insurance was 600 a month less than today. Because I have a policy that was still in effect before ACA came in, otherwise it would be 1500 a month more and the deductible would have risen 12k over existing deductible. If you make less than 30k a year how could you afford the deductible which is usually 10 to 15k per person? I would like to know exactly who gets O care since the price is so high the deductible is high and they dont give it to you if you dont really have a job. I have known some that take a job based on getting health care and the benefits. This is who ACA would benefit, welcome Orwells 1984 The penalty for not having insurance is unenforceable by the way. They cannot do anything to you for not having insurance other than keeping your refund. Maybe the idea behind ACA was never to help the poor but stifle those who have smaller businesses since the big outfits get insurance at discounted rates because they have so many people. So the people that work for these companies would also benefit from being on a workforce that gets cheap insurance. This would have the effect of people not going into small businesses and not having those employees insured. Hence making people slaves to big business or government that can afford ACA. This is the only way that this makes any sense. I would last like to see the balance sheet on ACA since the penalty will go up substantially after zero leaves office.

Second, for those who legitimately cannot afford it, legislation to subsidise hospitals and other specific health professionals to provide those people access to an acceptable level of health care. Not insurance but actual health care. The theory would be to have the government support an infrastructure within the healthcare industry to specifically address this class of people.
Hmm....so you are in favor of government healthcare ?

You know why should we have government health care all?
Have you ever looked at how much is paid on a bill from you and your health care? Sometimes the money paid out is less than 5 percent of the bill, anyone could afford that. So why doesn't the government give everyone the break that insurance companies get on the cost of the bill? Try to go to a dr and tell them you will pay what the insurance company pays, LOL.

Is data available spelling out what percentage of premiums paid by consumers goes to the insurance companies compared to the actual care providers, and how much money goes to the federal government employees who administer obamacare? Where are the actual costs? How much goes to the hospital corporations? Why has it skyrocketed? Seems like no one is really interested in knowing this.

Some have been interested in it. What a lot of people don't understand is Obamacare has made a dent in the costs. And over time should make more of a dent. When Orthepedic Surgeons can make over a million a year and get half the year off, that does not serve our system. There are many other reasons, but that should be easy to understand.

This we agree on but why do we need ACA to do this?

Hmm....so you are in favor of government healthcare ? Not as defined by you. My thought is to work through the private healthcare sector. Example. The argument is that people who don't have insurance just go to the ER because the law requires the ERs to treat them and at no cost to them, passing the cost on to the public. Well, if we are going to have a law mandating the hospitals and ER's must treat this class of people then let's work with the hospitals and ERs giving them incentives to help them approach this problem through tax breaks and innovative approaches that would create more clinics designed to address this, cheaper and more efficient than ERs. This is the problem with government run based healthcare. There are no natural mechanisms to control costs. That is why I believe the solution to healthcare is in the private sector. Enhanced by government oversight and limited subsidies.

Dems new slogan. Sorta fits, especially coming from Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pe-U
I think you're confused. It's the Repubs that want to repeal the ACA, not the Dems. And of course, they have nothing to replace it. I wonder how many of the tens of millions of people that have coverage, some maybe for the first time in many years, feel about the potential change. Please advise on why it needs to be replaced. I personally know several folks who have chosen to forego health insurance and pay the "fine". It's cheaper and they still get the needed health care. By going to emergency rooms ? Well, to be honest, I don't consider it any of my business to enquire.................... One of those did tell me they had worked out a payment plan with their MD. I assume that if it was an emergency, they'd use an ER but, as I said, I only know what information they volunteered.

Exactly how many republican represenitives and senators are you aquainted with? How many of them confide in the great bald one, when speaking of their ideas on healthcare coverage for us all? They've had 6 years to come up with a coherent plan to replace it. I'm still waiting. Can you lay out their replacement plan ? how do you figure they have had six years to come up with a plan? They all knew that it would never get past the Obamanator. We'll see soon, won't we? As MH said, they've had six long years to come up with a replacement and they haven't done a really cursed thing except vote 63 fecking times to repeal it, and failed miserably every time. What does that tell you? I find it amazing that with all these horror stories of people taking dog meds and going without any health care, no one is saying anything about the greedy CAPITALIST insurance companies! Who sets the GD rates! The insurance companies.... And anyone that can honestly feel that if you can't afford insurance, they just go ahead and die????? YOU CAN GO TO HELL. How in the snuggle can you feel that way? Is it all about the money? I'm all for keeping my money in my own pocket as much as any of you. But if it comes down to keeping that coin in my pocket, or someone dying for lack of medical care, I know what my answer would be. No one is saying anything about the greedy CAPITALIST insurance companies???You control greedy capitalist with competitive markets. Does Obamacare do that? No. The Republicans have been trying to get the Medical insurance industry into a competitive market model for a long time. That is what the "buying insurance across state lines" is about. One of the issues of this debate that has always been a problem from my perspective is that we are equating health insurance with actual health care. The solution to me is somewhat two fold. First, we should allow the purchase of insurance across state lines. Foster legislation to support a competitive and free market within that industry and let it run with moderate government oversight. This allowing more people to actually purchase insurance they can afford and use. But in any event, the foundation of all this is a robust economy. The more robust the economy, the more people have access to health insurance, the less people are in need. Less people in need the easier it will be to support those folks. I agree with most of what you have said with one caveat. We have encouraged and trained a large group of people in this Nanny State to never be self reliant, they've learned to use the system and will never pull their share of the load until forced to do so. Personal responsibility will be a painful lesson for them to learn but, learn it they must. Dump ObamaCare and let the chips fall where they may. The failing middle class has pulled more than their share for far too long. We're all going to die, some sooner than later, some due to other causes, some self induced. I know that's a hard assed attitude but, we've all got to grow up some day. Today is better than waiting around for the sky to fall. Churches, charities and family used to help out, it's time they did so again. I don't mind donating to the groups mentioned above, I do mind it when our government takes with out even asking.

1) The republicans have come up with many ways of replacing the ACA (open markets, insurance across state lines, tort reform, personal healthcare accounts, etc.) For those saying they have done nothing for 6 years or saying they have nothing to replace it with, just haven't been listening.
2) The ACA was/is the biggest lie ever told to American people, and they just keep on lying about it. First there was 30 million uninsured, which is why we needed this thing in the first place. Hussein stated 29 million people are now covered, but during the election Bernie kept yelling there were 29 million still NOT covered. Even Clinton was saying that millions were still not covered. We can't even get an straight answer on how many the ACA actually covers that weren't covered before. It was sold to us as lies and now even its failures are lied about.
The ACA is not about healthcare, and not even about making insurance companies rich (as we see them dropping out of the exchanges all over the country). It was one huge lie in order for the government to take control of many other aspects of our lives. What does student loans have to do with the ACA, or the sale of ones home? It was revealed by it's author that it was a redistribution thing that was written in way to deceive, which it did, but only the democrats. I said it before, democrats don't care if their own politicians lie to them.

But if it comes down to keeping that coin in my pocket, or someone dying for lack of medical care, I know what my answer would be. My goal is not for people to die, my goal is to get the overtaxing, overspending, overregulating, overreaching Fed off our backs and out of our lives. The dem platform (supported by plenty of rinos) is to tax and spend and waste and interfere to the point that the economy can no longer grow, and people can no longer find jobs. Rather than hire two guys, a company now spends 5 million on a robot, and figures to save money. That is the Fed at work. We simply cannot afford the vast network of welfare, food stamps, social security disability, VA disability, medicare, medicaid, a sea of cushy state Dept jobs at embassies worldwide, foreign aid, sixty percent of the UN, the lions share of NATO, a federal workforce of 1.4 million, and on and on. The national debt is now almost $20,000,000,000,000. And now those remaining employed are supposed to pay for all or most of the health care for a third of the country permanently unemployed, and millions of illegals who this administration encourages to cross the border and buses to unsuspecting spots around the country? NO, no, nope, nada. If we get our house in order, cut the G to the bone, and put America first and back to work, pay down the debt, say in about 20 to 50 years, if we actually have a surplus, then maybe we could afford some of these giveaway programs. YOU CAN GO TO HELL. I'll meet you there... buddy.

Ahh, how I long for the good old days........
Wife and I used to go to a small town good ol' boy doctor that charged $20 for an office visit. Insurance not accepted, refused to deal with it. Records were kept on 3x5 file cards written in pencil. Occasionally for a quick consultation, a bottle of Jim Beam would be considered payment.
Wonder if he's still around????

Before he fully gave up because of over-regulation, my doctor briefly tried that a few years ago... $75 for a basic visit, $125 if it was more complex, he would NOT deal with insurance at ALL. But even with a policy like that the government was reaching in and strangling him too much to make a long term go of it.

Some have been interested in it. What a lot of people don't understand is Obamacare has made a dent in the costs. And over time should make more of a dent. When Orthepedic Surgeons can make over a million a year and get half the year off, that does not serve our system. There are many other reasons, but that should be easy to understand. Whoa there sport, the surgeon that just did my hip replacement would love to have such a deal. He works his butt off the majority of the year, schedules a break months ahead of time....usually a short one during the holidays & some time during the summer. His office is a beehive of activity, plus he's called upon to instruct others on the "anterior approach" for hip surgery, same method used on me. His staff gets more time off than he does, same thing applies for the remainder of the surgeons that work for the same organization. Granted, he makes a nice chunk of change each year, but he works for every bit of it and feels fortunate if he can take a full uninterrupted break.

I didn't mean to imply that all doctors and surgeons are like that. It was meant as example of part of the reason health care costs are so high. And there are many other reasons also. I'm glad your hip surgery went well. How is Rita doing ?

Baldo,, you have done this before and I called you out on it? How many times do you have to do this before you learn to control yourself. Cmon dude,, at least try.

Lol...I knew you'd ask for them. Unfortunately I don't save such things. The Satan reference was to drive it home. I try not to overreact. No comment on the troll nonsense. And I'd be happy to drink any beer put in front of me.... That's just the way I roll....

Everyone just chill for a month or so. In making America great again, Trump will soon have things peachy keen in all areas and no one will have anything to worry about. A month or two? Wow, it took Obama eight years to get us this screwed up and you expect Trump to fix it all in a month or two? My goodness, you have a lot of faith in him and the new Republican majority. Appreciate the support.

I wonder how many of the tens of millions of people that have coverage, some maybe for the first time in many years, feel about the potential change.
enlighten us oh great bald one.
As MH said, they've had six long years to come up with a replacement and they haven't done a goddaXXX thing except vote 63 fecking times to repeal it, and failed miserably every time. What does that tell you?
Well Baldo, you finally got around to offending me. How about backing off on the blasphemy? God has nothing to do with Obama care or your political agenda. Thanks.
Dave, I apologize for offending you with any religious references. I'm not a religious person, and I forget myself occasionally. I really do make an effort to avoid using those words, they sometimes get past my filter. Again, I apologize. Bob
Thank You Bob, I appreciate it. I may not agree with you in some cases but I always try and be respectful of your opinion. That one got under my skin. Thanks for acknowledging it in a respectful way in turn. Dave

How is Rita doing ? man what a deal that 6 month vacation would be I have worked in Orthopaedics for many years and I only work when the DR I work for does and we average about 60-65 hrs a week. And Yep they make a lot of money but you also need to think about all the expense involved with being a DR. Think about what they have to pay their help. Let's see Receptionist, phone operators,X-ray techs, office personnel for billing,Transcription, accounting ,schedulers, nurses, medical assistants, office rent, utilities, not to mention malpractice insurance that is off the charts, I know I am missing a lot of other expenses. We treat a percentage of uninsured patients of about 30% and they all expect not to have to sign a payment agreement because DRs are Rich I would like someone to take their car to a mechanic and expect it to be repaired for free and see how quickly they get laughed off the property. I work 5 days a week ,three weeks of the month and four the other week with 6 of those 19 days being 24 hr Call days and average working 18 hrs on those 6 days. So tell me where those 6 months off are?

Second, for those who legitimately cannot afford it, legislation to subsidise hospitals and other specific health professionals to provide those people access to an acceptable level of health care. Not insurance but actual health care. The theory would be to have the government support an infrastructure within the healthcare industry to specifically address this class of people.
Hmm....so you are in favor of government healthcare ? WE already have this in place it is called Medicaid and Medicare. It is abused, misused and a waste of so much money. I work in the ER, I see it on a daily basis. All the able bodied people we get in there because of "chronic pain" every day(after going to the other 2 local hospitals for pain meds and despite the fact they have already been prescribed enough pain meds to OD a herd of elephants), moms who bring their baby in for a fever(first question, how high?? Don't know ain't gots no thermometer but they hot. give them any tylenol ain't got no money for no tylenol. But you got money for cigarettes and Mc Donalds? Thermometer in the butt, no fever, I still want them seen, they still feel hot and they cryin), girls come in by ambulance/911 for a yeast infection(you know medicaid will pay for that $5.00 OTC yeast infection cream with a prescription), people coming in to get checked for an STD because they slept with someone and their crap burns when they pee, All the bullshit. But they gots medicaid, it's free. Meanwhile If I am legitimately sick it costs me $350.00 to walk in the door of my own ER. I could write a book on the Medicaid/medicare waste just in my little ER and guarantee it costs tens of millions a year, add this up to every other hospital in the country, I bet the waste and fraud is in the Trillions. Want to stop this waste?? Give all Medicaid and Medicare people a $25.00-$50.00 non-emergency co-pay, before being seen. Start dipping into the cigarette, weed and beer money, the nail and weave money, they'll make their priorities and stop coming.

Had a fella tell me one time he couldn't afford his ABX and I ask him how much he smoked, told me about two packs a day so I told him not to smoke for the next week and he would have money left over.

Under Obamacare US Life Expectancy has DROPPED for the first time since 1993. (And the 1993 drop was largely attributed to AIDS taking so many young people at the time.)
