I think you're confused. It's the Repubs that want to repeal the ACA, not the Dems. And of course, they have nothing to replace it. I wonder how many of the tens of millions of people that have coverage, some maybe for the first time in many years, feel about the potential change.

Well, to begin with, I have never seen health care as being an American's "right". We have no right to health care here. Also wondering what will be replacing it but the costs of the present system are outrageous and climbing. The only folks who seem to be on the positive side of this are the Ins. companies....and of course the chosen few on both sides of the aisles in Washington.

It can't be replaced fast enough. My co pay went from 20 bucks to 100 bucks this year. My deductible went from 5000 to 15000. Tell me how any of that is affordable. ACA is the biggest crock of crap anyone has ever thought up.

No crap Pappy, it's called capitalism. If you can afford health insurance, you can. And if you can't, you can't. There is no right to health care. You want health insurance, get a job. Repeal it in it's entirely, and return to capitalism. Socialism makes me sick. If hospitals can't afford to fix the indigent (and they can't), then the indigent go unfixed or die. Same deal with SSI, welfare, food stamps, etc. Nowhere in the Constitution is a nanny state called for. A great deal can be done with charities and philanthropy, but stealing what I earned with my sweat under threat of jail and criminal justice (IRS) is robbery and extortion.

Guys I have worked in DIRECT healthcare for 30+ yrs. since the so called ACA was passed I have personally met 1 I repeat 1 person it has helped, most it hurts. My Insurance has gon up every quarter since the passing of that Fake bill. The reason I am told because of Obama Care. The reason mine is going up is to pay for everyone else's coverage. Dr's reembursment is waaaaaay down and patients deductibles are waaaaaaaaay up. What we had before this even with all the uninsured was better than what is happening now. If you needed treatment before go to a county Hospital and YOU CANNOT be turned away and will recieve the treatment you need. And yes it does take tax dollars to pay for that but it isn't as high as what is happening now. I know and have a lot of patients that won't even sign up for Ocare because it takes money from their pocket so they would rather pay the CHEAP penalty to not have it because the government can't collect the penalty to start with. In the Cases where they can withhold tax returns what the hell difference does that make?none because the government already has spent the taxes paid in and when someone gets a $10,000 refund ( and don't pay in that much to start with) and gets a $800 penalty, they are happy to not get coverage and let the government keep the $800 they should have never gotten anyway they will still get that other $9,200. For you that are about to get your panties in a wad these #'s are just an example. I have paid my own Insurance since I turned 18 yrs old and haven't had to use it but once for anything other than a RX or something else very cheap. So I think maybe BCBS owes me about 40k for not useing but paying through the nose for it. And btw I heard Odumbass say this morning that here were x# millions more insured now than before. What a crock of crap,we treat just as many uninsured today as we did before the scam went into effect. Do they get the same tx as someone with insurance? The answer is HELL YES. all are tx the same.

Insurance ought never be designed to break people either, or to essentially be a top-to-bottom redistribution of income/wealth nationwide.

Old Chuckie was running his mouth about the ACA and he was standing right by a huge sign that read, MAKE AMERICA SICK AGAIN. I know their intent, but the optics really suck for them. What I'm saying is if the Republicans do what Trump has said by keeping the pre existing conditions, keeping the 26 year old in the insurance, keeping the maximum caps, and keeping the popular parts of "Obamacare". But get rid of the mandates, it's going to drive up costs for insurance companies. Those insurance companies are not going to just absorb those costs, they are going to pass them on to us.

I personally know 3 people that can't afford real insurance, and after looking at the ridiculous Obamacare plans elected to just pay the penalty tax and go to a veterinarian for care when they need it.
And no, I'm not kidding.
This is where we are today as a nation. College graduates going to a veterinarian because Obamacare has mangled our healthcare system to such a point that that's the best solution for them.
We can do better. We have done better. Scrap Obamacare and replace it with nothing, let the market run things again, that solution was FAR more effective than what we've got now!

I'm hesitant to make predictions after my dismal attempt in November. But I think if it is scrapped there will be a huge amount of people in an uproar. The midterms could get pretty ugly. And I dispute your idea that everything was far more effective before. Being denied care for cancer because you already had cancer before is far from effective.

My preference would be a PURE market based solution, get government out of it entirely. Everything the government touches turns to crap, gets more complicated, less efficient, more expensive, etc. But if we HAVE to have government meddling in healthcare then I'm okay with keeping some of the less onerous parts of the law. But I'd really like to see the whole thing heaved out. Entirely. Have you been to aa veterinarian latley? I just dropped 500 bucks on my 9 year old black lab. You can get pet insurance too. While my story was 100% true and I stand behind it, one TINY tidbit of information I neglected to put out there the first time - These three individuals are all DVMs themselves, they've all recently gotten their doctorate and started working as vets, and take care of each other in a "I scratch your back you scratch my back" arrangement... ...of course, the "Medical Device Taxes" added in Obamacare apply to many items veterinarians use as well, so Obama is responsible for the higher prices of taking your pets to the vet now as well...

Still tryin in my uncouth brain to figure the HOW of gubmint Forcing "health care" on the unwashed and the unsuspecting. Hard working people here on this board have stated more than once that prior to zerocare they had Good Affordable Health insurance. After zerocare was enacted-we have to pass it to see what's in it-the rates went up deductibles went up and care nose dived. I tend to put more stock in what my friends here relate than ANYTHING that comes outa deception central. Specially if it has zeros finger prints on it. Sides-my Friends here have suffered thru the Bull crap That IS the a c a. Start chargin the politicians the Actual full price rates at Walter Reed. RIDE SAFE.

I wonder how many of the tens of millions of people that have coverage, some maybe for the first time in many years, feel about the potential change. Not sure where you heard that fib, I know Schumer(sp) is doing his best to spread the manure but that statement simply isn't so. Same for the millions that are supposedly going to lose their insurance if the ACA is repealed...just ain't so. At present there's somewhere in the neighborhood of 30mil. that don't have insurance, partly due to it being unaffordable, partly due to the individual mandate. As stated many times in the past, there are two classes that can afford the insurance as written; the rich that can afford it at any cost, and the poor that get a majority of the premium paid via supplements. The average working person bears the brunt of the cost to the latter through their inflated premiums and copay levels. This ACA was one of the worst pieces of legislation ever to hit the streets of America, they knew it ahead of time and still passed it, even over the objections of the masses. If the Democrats are so frickin' smart, how come it has been such a huge failure? Just about anything else put in its place will be an improvement.

...if they DON'T scrap it things will get FAR uglier for those in power... They have kind of backed themselves into a corner. So you are not in favor of Trumps idea to keep the "good" parts ? Dogs take many of the same meds humans do. I was surprised when we got a prescription and it was the same as an antibiotic I had leftovers of.

Probably get into this for hours if I was so inclined and I am not. The Affordable Care Act is not affordable. This monstrosity also known as Obamacare is a colossal failure and has been even before it's inception. Passed on a strict party line vote and signed into law by a Democrat President in the face of Republicans taking to the floors of their respective chambers and laying out the incredible deficiencies in the proposed law. To no avail. It's not like no one saw the impending failure here. But hey, they gave it a catchy title! I too, believe things were much better before. Sure there are many instances where life sucked for people. But I would wager that, statistically, things were indeed less costly, more accessible, and better quality for more people before Obamacare than after. The thing that everyone must understand is that even the wealthiest person with the best medical plan will die of something. No plan, however comprehensive, will meet the needs of everyone and when the attempt is made to bring that comprehensive plan to reality we find it either meets the needs of no one or just the needs of the few at the greater expense of the many. Great healthcare is directly dependent on robust economic health. A healthy economy means jobs, creation of wealth, and more vibrant populace. The argument is often made about people "used to" go to the ER for medical care and now they have insurance. These people still go to the ER for their medical care. Obamacare doesn't really change that dynamic at all except in the margins perhaps. Looking at it from their perspective, they used to go to the ER for medical care. Now we want them to call in, make an appointment with their doctor, then get in their car and drive to their appointment, fill out a bunch of insurance forms. Nope, they still just go to the ER. Don't cost them nothin.

Dems new slogan. Sorta fits, especially coming from Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pe-U
I think you're confused. It's the Repubs that want to repeal the ACA, not the Dems. And of course, they have nothing to replace it. I wonder how many of the tens of millions of people that have coverage, some maybe for the first time in many years, feel about the potential change. enlighten us oh great bald one. Exactly how many republican represenitives and senators are you aquainted with? How many of them confide in the great bald one, when speaking of their ideas on healthcare coverage for us all?

They all knew that it would never get past the Obamanator. We'll see soon, won't we?

That they would have a replacement plan.

Great healthcare is directly dependent on robust economic health. A healthy economy means jobs, creation of wealth, and more vibrant populace.
This is a great point Moonshot. Maybe the most important point of all. Zerocare is catastrophic on healthcare, and on the economy. IF it was an honest attempt at righting all past wrongs and inequities in healthcare (and I doubt it), it is akin to the various collective cures for cancer almost killing the patient to save him. It is killing the economy and healthcare, and it is by no means certain the patient (we the average people) could or would survive it. Add in the not so distant projections for social security (earned) and all other entitlements (unearned), a crippling national debt, and we have a meltdown coming as mathematical certainty.
I think Zerocare was just the master stroke of the Zero plan to bring the country to it's knees to the point that the FED would then make all decisions for us all forever; total reliance on, total subservience to, total control by the Fed. Just look at how far afield from actual healthcare the law extended.... into nearly every aspect of our lives. And who knew John Roberts would save it from the bench by calling it a lawful tax? The last nail in the coffin. Would it take us to 60-70 percent federal tax to keep it afloat? Who would chose to work at all with that kind of tax (plus state taxes)???????
IF it is possible to save a few parts to the good of the country so be it. But until I am convinced otherwise, it should be entirely scrapped and healthcare returned to a market economy.

As MH said, they've had six long years to come up with a replacement and they haven't done a really cursed thing except vote 63 fecking times to repeal it, and failed miserably every time. What does that tell you? I find it amazing that with all these horror stories of people taking dog meds and going without any health care, no one is saying anything about the greedy CAPITALIST insurance companies! Who sets the GD rates! The insurance companies.... And anyone that can honestly feel that if you can't afford insurance, they just go ahead and die????? YOU CAN GO TO HELL. How in the snuggle can you feel that way? Is it all about the money? I'm all for keeping my money in my own pocket as much as any of you. But if it comes down to keeping that coin in my pocket, or someone dying for lack of medical care, I know what my answer would be.

Everyone just chill for a month or so. In making America great again, Trump will soon have things peachy keen in all areas and no one will have anything to worry about.

But if it comes down to keeping that coin in my pocket, or someone dying for lack of medical care, I know what my answer would be. No one is saying anything about the greedy CAPITALIST insurance companies???You control greedy capitalist with competitive markets. Does Obamacare do that? No. The Republicans have been trying to get the Medical insurance industry into a competitive market model for a long time. That is what the "buying insurance across state lines" is about. One of the issues of this debate that has always been a problem from my perspective is that we are equating health insurance with actual health care. The solution to me is somewhat two fold. First, we should allow the purchase of insurance across state lines. Foster legislation to support a competitive and free market within that industry and let it run with moderate government oversight. This allowing more people to actually purchase insurance they can afford and use. Second, for those who legitimately cannot afford it, legislation to subsidise hospitals and other specific health professionals to provide those people access to an acceptable level of health care. Not insurance but actual health care. The theory would be to have the government support an infrastructure within the healthcare industry to specifically address this class of people. But in any event, the foundation of all this is a robust economy. The more robust the economy, the more people have access to health insurance, the less people are in need. Less people in need the easier it will be to support those folks.
