Doesn't sound like a terrorist attack (this time).

Still a lot of chaos. The report I heard was that after killing the people he threw his gun and laid spread eagle waiting for the cops to come arrest him. Seem to be a lot of false alarms afterwards. Probably going to make it even harder to transport your weapon.  tickedoff

Prayers for the families of the fallen. I am surprised that in well armed Florida a citizen didnt drop this loser. Reports are it happened in the baggage claim area.

just a guess, but some psycho with mental issues probably did the shooting randomly no specific target.

could be a terrorist, but not in the true sense of the word terrorist otherwise he might not have surrendered so easily.  Still a terrorist though in my eyes, throw the book at him.   tickedoff

Sure wants me more and more each day carrying my .22 pistol or at least leaving it in the truck in a case  'just in case' I would need it moment.   A .22 is still better than a stick/bat/or long snow broom I guess?

Don't worry,  Trump is still going to put that wall up with Mexico right?  So sad, not really a laughing matter at all.

I can see a properly secured and INSPECTED handgun allowed on an airplane. But no damn ammo for that weapon anywhere. I don't fly, can that be done? The gun but no ammo? Do they inspect all weapons before allowing them on board?

I am no expert, but he got off 3 rounds having to change magazines each time.  I know it does not take too long to change rounds, but with the security in airports nowadays, could not one of the security guards or by standers ran at him tackling him BEFORE getting in the 2nd or 3rd round?

I would not want to shoot him though unless really close in a very busy crowded airport with innocent people all around him.

This just in,  he walked into a police station in Anchorage Alaska asking to watch ISIS videos stating govt. forced him to watch them,  and at that time the police took him to a mental hospital about 2 months ago.  So, he may be tied to ISIS or an ISIS wanna-be?   tickedoff

Can travel with ammo, but in a separate lock box away from the gun from what I just heard, but no expert on flying for sure.

You can have a firearm in CHECKED luggage, NOT carryon.

The weapon in checked luggage must be unloaded, with any magazines unloaded, but you CAN have ammunition with the weapon.

The weapon must be declared beforehand.

He was a passenger on a flight traveling with a checked gun in his baggage, according to federal law enforcement officials, who asked to speak on the condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation. The officials said that Santiago had picked up his bag and took the gun into the bathroom to load it before returning to the baggage claim area to begin firing at people.

....he walked into a police station in Anchorage Alaska asking to watch ISIS videos stating govt. forced him to watch them,  and at that time the police took him to a mental hospital about 2 months ago.

Mental health case....... again.  (who dropped the ball?)

Baggage area is open to the public, anyone can walk in there from outside the terminal with a gun, don't need to have flown on the plane. I have met and picked up people in the baggage area and I carry all the time. At least in the airports I have been to.

Not in Florida! We are pretty good about our gun laws but draw the line on carrying in an airport.

https://www.floridacarry.org/issues/concealed-and-unconcealed-carry/40-airport-carry-is-legal-in-44-states-but-florida-will-put-you-in-jail

Am thinking that our ability to carry a gun in checked baggage inside of a locked container is going the way of the saber tooth tiger...............

no, 3 magazines, not just 3 bullets... uglystupid2

It sounds like in some places you can still carry a handgun into an airport regardless of location.  I think anywhere in an airport, carrying should not be allowed period loaded or unloaded gun.  Just my 2 cents...

Pappy, you don't have to go through a metal detector to get to the baggage area do you?

It never ceases to amaze me the kindness and heroism of just regular folks in these kinds of incidents. Listening to some of them tell their stories fills my heart with pride for our society. It's easy to think I would do the right thing in such a circumstance. Many of these people did.  cooldude
