Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: January 13, 2017, 06:06:17 AM »

... the more they remain the same..." I have no idea who originated that saying, but it is one we all can relate to with no difficulty... So, here I am in an all too familiar state, doing what I often do, all the while knowing full-well what the eventual answer will be... A Coddiwomple...

According to Napper, Super Santa (Early Bird) used that 'English slang' term in a recent Facebook post of his. The definition that accompanied that odd word in the text I received from Napper: "To travel purposefully toward an as-yet-unknown destination." Dang, that is and has been my 'MO' for a couple of decades now, and it pretty well sums up my current need as I write this.

Even as I perused the map and pondered various routes, destinations, etc., as I usually do, and as I even looked over a couple of ads for cabin rentals for possible brief stays, something else I frequently do, I knew better... I also checked the weather, of course, and it did not look promising...

This time of year I try to stay south of I-40, so that does limit my range. Oh well, between the two oceans that present the east-west limits of my range, there still is much fertile adventure opportunity... So... As my cabin fever continues to approach the intolerable level, and as my feet continue to develop that chronic itchy feeling, I continue to toss out hints to ALI... "Soon, baby... very soon..."

"From this hour I ordain myself loos’d of limits and imaginary lines,
Going where I list, my own master total and absolute,
Listening to others, considering well what they say,
Pausing, searching, receiving, contemplating,
Gently, but with undeniable will, divesting myself of the holds that would hold me.
I inhale great draughts of space,
The east and the west are mine, and the north and the south are mine..."  Walt Whitman

Well, to the extent common sense, cold temps and icy precip will allow, that above passage is my mantra... Very soon, my friends, the old bug slayer will be at large and on the loose... again...

With the somewhat rare extended Winter weather we've had here through December and now into January, last year was the first year in at least the past 8 that I never got out for at least one good ride every month of the year. Usually I've been pretty smug about our comparably  "mild" weather here in SW BC to the rest of Canada, but I'm becoming envious now too of those of you reside in the Southern regions of this continent where for the most part, the time of year isn't a factor in your ability to just pick up  head out on a ride.
Enjoy your next journey, stay safe, and I look forward to more of your stories from the road cooldude

cooldude  It is good to know that the recliner of old age and death is still unable to grasp you in it's numbing clutches.  I, and I believe many others too, always look forward to the next installment of your travels.  Wishing you safe and exciting journeys for a long long time to come.  If you find yourself listing toward my part of TN, the door is always open for you my friend.  And I know a Valkyrie that would love to roll across a few miles with ALI once again.

Bruce,

This line.

"The east and the west are mine, and the north and the south are mine..."  Walt Whitman

I consider the best line of many, many excellent lines of verse in the poem.

It's the one that got my attention in that commercial and the one that I thought explains the draw, the road has on you and others of your like.

Here's the whole production.  Worth a watch.  Yes a commercial, yes a car, but the message is much bigger.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBt_niVG4sM

The narration is done by Josh Broslin, who gives the line, and production, the goose bump reaction is has.

Get out there, grab some road for all of us.
