My seat came today. I got it put on after work, with my Utopia
backrest hooked into the OEM passenger seat. I put the bike
in the chock so I can sit on it. It just feels funny and different.
I'll ride it to work tomorrow, but the real test will be a real
ride. Maybe Saturday...

It is sitting out there in the dark now, I'll get a picture on here
tomorrow... it looks.. funny... like a Russell Day Long, but close
inspection shows great workmanship...

when you ride 700 miles and then get to your destination,

and then think, I need to go for a ride before dinner

that was the Russell that did that for you    cooldude

Mike, I've said it many times...I've never heard of anyone returning a Russell Day Long seat for a refund IF the seat was made specifically for them. It is wider and "might" make it harder to flatfoot your bike. But the overall comfort should be excellent.

No suspense for me. You'll love it. Pretty soon you won't think it feels funny and different. You will be a Jedi in no time and be one with the seat.

correct me if I am wrong, but you have to send to them a seat, say a stock seat or just frame of a Valk seat, for them to customize it on top correct?

How much does one cost again vs. say an ultimate big boy?  I would think if having to give them say a stock I/S seat worth tops 100 bucks,  it would lower the cost somewhat???? coolsmiley

If I ever did much more than 250 miles in one day,  an upgrade would be for sure in order, although you have to stop for gas before 200 miles is up anyways right??  Roll Eyes

You're correct. Russell Day Long doesn't supply any pans. I bought a used stock seat and sent that to them. Sending them a seat(so they can use the pan) is a requirement but doesn't lower the price. That's all specified up front on their site so that's not a surprise. Compare Russell's warranty to the others...it's very fair as far as how long you get to send it back, etc.

As far as cost, it depends on options, just like an Ultimate. My seat was real leather and was for the Interstate, cost me about 1100 with covers. That included the passenger backrest.  I had previously purchased an Ultimate Big Boy which didn't work out for me and Des was a super guy to work with and took it back. Ya gotta remember, the Russell is a custom seat, made for YOUR butt. It's worth a couple hundred more.

I'm kind of embarrassed how much I spent. But it was the best $1340 I've ever spent.

Everything in life has a value. Riding in comfort is pretty much a necessity or it isn't fun. Some can do it on a stock seat. Others, like my candy butt, required more. Smiley

I got just the rider's seat, no passenger seat, no backrest... about $560...
All leather, he said he was particularly proud of this shipment of leather, it
came from a new supplier...

I have a Utopia backrest already, it was about the first thing I bought
for the bike a couple of years ago...

That is really sharp, Mike.

I'll be placing my order in the next month or so, just a rider seat and recover my Utopia backrest to match. I was back and forth about going with leather, but seeing yours has settled that issue... cooldude

How long did the process take?

As far as seat pans, I have the original (99) and a newer OEM. Does anyone know if the pan is any different? The '01 is a bit more comfortable, but might just be more padding. I'm not sure.

I don't think it matters about the pan, even if they are different. The pan is
just a base to build the seat on that happens to bolt onto your bike.

It think it took 6-8 weeks... Winter might be a good time. When you grind through
the picture taking process and submit your order, they send back your build date.
You need, obviously, to get your seat pan to them before that date.

Bob, either seat pan will work. I used a standard seat for my Interstate Russell build. We did the ride in, doing Tahoe , Mammoth, Hiway 36, Ave. of the Giants as part of the trip. Use whichever seat you are going to do for the pics.

I already had a wooden seat  Wink ...

Just joking, I wouldn't bad-mouth Corbin, I bet if I sent
the seat back like they said I could, they would have fitted
it to me and it would have been fine. Their seats are great
quality, and the stiffness of it wasn't my problem with it.

This Russell seat seems so far to live up to its reputation, though,
and I'm happy to have it...

I'm glad you're happy with it. You have a lot of time and money setting that bike up to be comfortable for you.  With all the modifications you've made is there any buyers remorse with the new Valk?  Maybe an F6B would not have needed as much personal fitment.

I feel the B might have better wind protection once one gets rid of the stock shorty windshield and for two up long distance cargo + rider + passenger weight max being 410 is better than the 1800c at 370 but just like the C it needs a new seat and windshield as the 1500 many buy a Russell, Corbin or Ultimate and baker wings.  I don't see the B for Mike but if I was to do it over............... I would heavily consider the B being 90% two up.  Lucky for me the handlebars on the C work fine.  There is a staggering amount of 1800c bikes for sale, many new.  Cry a friend just bought a blue 2014 with windshield and sissy bar with only 4K miles for a staggering low $8000  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I wil say...  The acceleration and the ride of the C is amazing!  Hey I did not say staggering again.  2funny

Will be interesting to see if the 1800 B is scrubbed like the C.

I went to see about a f6b as soon as they came out. I don't much like fairings, so
the wrap around dashboard on the f6b was a show stopper for me. I don't
care for the unitized bags on the rear-end either...

I remember sitting on the f6c when I got back from my test ride - "this thing's awesome,
I'll just change the bars!"

I like my Corbin for many reasons and yes it does take awhile like a new pair of shoes to wear any seat in, so as not to feel strange. The Russel Day long is a good seat but I like my Corbin.

I can't help you with buying a new seat, but I'm sure I could give some good advice on gaining the weight....
