I haven't been able to log on from my laptop for several days.

My tablet was giving me trouble also but it is working fine now.

I emailed Willow and he assured me that the board was up.

I hope that I figure what the laptop's problem is soon.

Mine says past few weeks mostly off unable to log on:  DNS server down on the Valkyreforum.com  website.

I wonder if me or this website, not sure?  I have a windows Vista laptop not updated to windows 10 or even windows 7 but this is the only website I cannot go onto, mostly off the past few weeks, very odd?

I'm not certain what causes the issues you are encountering.  Several weeks ago the site was down for short times.

I haven't had any connection issues in the past couple of weeks.

For me, the valkyrieriders.com site is never the problem

It lies when trying to access the screen with general board option

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/board,4.0.html

Happens from work, home and smart phone about half a dozen times each week,  I just do something else and come back later

Hmmm... Something is definitely going on, but I don't know what the VRCC folks can do. The site is obviously up and running fine for me right now, but I checked from a few "Is it down for everyone or just me" testing sites, and they both show the www.valkyrieforum.com is down for them.

http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/valkyrieforum.com.html

As of 7:55AM CST this one says Valkyrieforum.com is DOWN for everyone.

http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/www.valkyrieforum.com

As of 7:55AM CST this one says it's up, but 15 minutes ago it was showing down.

http://isitdownorjust.me/valkyrieforum-com/

As of 7:55AM CST this one says it's down.

And running my personal tests, from my home Internet connection, I'm able to get in.
From a fortune 500 corporate network, I'm able to connect.
From a US Federal government network, I'm NOT able to connect.

If anyone's moderately computer savvy and not on a corporate network (Need to have unfettered Internet access to do this, not behind a proxy, a firewall or router is okay) next time you're not able to get connected open a command prompt and run this command:

tracert valkyrieforum.com

Copy and paste the output here.

Only do this if you're not able to connect to the www.valkyrieforum.com site. This isn't for if you're getting the "Database unable to connect" error.

It sounds like one of the upstream peers to the VRCC's colo is having some intermittent routing issues, collecting this data might help the VRCC IT guy get the colo company to fix it.

For reference purposes, here's my (functioning) trace route output from this morning:

Okay, so after I told you I'd had no recent problems I'm at the hospital with my windows 10 machine on their wifi and it happened.  I couldn't get to valkyrieforum.com with several attempts but then I could go through valkyrieriders.com and get there through links.  At home I've checked the box that says to keep me logged in so it is always there.

It does appear, as Serk has said, to be a router issue.

From what I can tell, no.

It looks like it's an intermittent issue on one of the upstream peers of the colo.

Er... translation - The VRCC server is in a datacenter, and one of the Internet connections from there to the rest of the world seems to be having intermittent problems, so if I'm correct the problem is there, and not with your computer.

Here's another test, bookmark this and see if you can get to the forum when you otherwise can't, this can help figure out if it's a DNS issue or if it's a routing issue:

Serk,, it has happened to me several times over the last 3 months, and being IT savy,, I have attrributed it to a DNS issue. It seems that if your bookmark points to a certain area on the board you will see this from time to time. If your bookmark is pointed to the "home page" IE valkyrieforum.com this rarely happens.  Just my observation. Also that bookmark that you gave above will not work with most corporate firewalls which I am sure you are aware of.  cooldude

Yup, I was noticing the same behavior this morning. If Scott or the other behind the scenes folks see this, looks like ya' need to open a ticket with your Colo in regards to your DNS setup, there appears to be some intermittent DNS failures going on.

(I'm sure all the infrastructure is getting hammered with Inzane registration going live as well)

Mr. Meat - A brief explanation. Every computer on the Internet has an IP address (The 66.45.242.206 in this case) but since those aren't friendly for people to remember, they came up with friendly names, like www.valkyrieforum.com. DNS is the system that tracks and correlates the names with the number. When you type www.valkyrieforum.com into your web browser your computer does some behind the scenes things finding the authoritative DNS server for the valkyrieforum.com domain, then asking it what the IP address is for www.valkyrieforum.com is, then your computer tries to talk to the VRCC forum computer by it's IP address...

Simplified, but I hope that makes at least a little bit of sense.

IP address (66.45.242.206 for instance) - think of it as a street address. I.E. 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
DNS Name (www.valkyrieforum.com for instance) - think of it as more conversational. I.E. The White House

And for the admins - Been doing some more testing, doing manual DNS lookups against both of your DNS servers, ns1.vrccserver.com and ns2.vrccserver.com and getting connection time out failures on both of 'em. I can ping the DNS host IPs though, so looks like it's an issue with the DNS daemon itself?

Code:
> server 66.45.242.196
Default server: 66.45.242.196
Address: 66.45.242.196#53
> [url=http://www.vrccservices.com]www.vrccservices.com[/url]
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

darn computers, great when they work,  pissing me off when they do not.

yah,  DNS server issue, get the IT dept..... Embarrassed

I got into work today and had a 2-3 hour issue having to figure out where I left off in a file, was either 1000 or 762 records in SAME exact file.  Lady at work sent me hers and said 762, while my exact file showed over 1000.

I asked her if she saved that 762 file in another location naming it same thing is the only logical solution since she knows where the file is kept.  She was remoting in at home though so maybe on that end??  I asked IT dept. and they are useless.  I had to waste near 3 hours going into her smaller record same file and find out where I left off from yesterday having over 1500 records worked it down to 1000 records, since some of them I did yesterday and I know for a fact over 300 records were deleted and done by me the day before but not on her same file she sent me ASAP this morning having 762 records.  Really pissed me off wasting 3 hours of work time when I am over 8 days behind already.

And...based on how long it takes from the time I hit "reply" to when the reply gets posted I would say the site is still just hanging on by a thread.
