Desmog - NO not taking off-???, just what I found..

Hello all. I was working on a few projects and it is so nice here in NE this weekend, that was doing some things on the big girl. Well I always thought that she was desmogged from the previous and first owner. He did alot of things to her to make her better. Well I just thought he just left the parts on but not connected. In case he sells it or something. I took a closer look this weekend and noticed that she was NOT desmogged. Sooo what does a guy do, lets take that crap off. Ordered the Red eye kit so it looks nice. Well as I am taking everything off, I am down the last pipe and notice something on everything. The insides of the pipes that it is SERIOUS dirty.    Like number 1 and 5 where almost clogged. Over 3/4 was filled. I cleaned out the holes in the engine (just a cloth and screw driver, no cleaner).
I have ALWAYS notice gas/oil in my air box. Every winter I clean that out. Is this the reason why that is happening? All that crap in there and possible clogged? She runs pretty good but thinking that she will run better now with out all that crap, literally. 
Also that begs the question about the inside. She only has 160,000+ miles on her. And that still makes her a baby most Valkyries.. Just wondering since I am here and it is Jan and the earliest I can possible ride without freezing my butt off is March.  LOL

Unless there is something wrong with the Smog system, there is no real performance advantage to removing it.

The crud in the pipes could be pipe rot?.  If so clean it out, if no pipes are leaking ride on.

If it is carbon accumulation from the exhaust then the smog system may be malfunctioning and need repair or removal.

And the stuff in the air box is normal. Some like to call it Dragon drool.

I have already desmogged it. It does make things ALOT cleaner inside. I wanted to put in Dan Marco but did not have room it seemed like. Now, lots of room.

Using a Dan Marc doesn't come anywhere near the smog stuff. It needs to be installed up top above the carbs and before the "T" where the fuel line splits.

The Smog tubes should be dirty.  That is their purpose.  The recirculate the unburnt exhaust back into the intake system.  By definition that crap is dirty.

Nope, not on the Valkyrie. The system introduces air into the exhaust right there at the exhaust outlet. There's no recirculation going on!
