There was a person on that machine…one that wanted nothing more than to get home and see his lady…

…a person that might just need one more day…or perhaps just one more moment…to earn back another piece of his soul…

Good questions. I think the majority don't know or care. Every once in a while you'll get one that is remorseful and apologetic about their actions. But it is rare. Had an incident this morning on the way to work. A truck was stopped at a left turn light. Evidently he got tired of waiting for the light and decided to pull out and go straight in front of me. Luckily nobody was in the far right lane and I was able to escape death.

Some folks drive like their license came out of the cracker jacks box. Others drive like they no comprenday. And then the faction that just do NOT give a rats patootie bout anyone or anything. Daniel-after all the years in the high seat of an 18 wheeler while I may not have seen it all I've seen more than my fair share.  Lips Sealed And as an aside-they ARE out to git us. RIDE SAFE.

Have you considered going to a cage?  (I know, sacrilege)

Have you considered wearing a slung AR over your back when riding in that mess?  They might see you then.

I have it here too, but retired, I never go through the worst of it anymore.

I worked a block behind the Whitehouse for 18 years.

I rode in only about twice a summer.  Guess why?

The metro train (drove a cage 7 miles to it; you could not leave you bike in their garages) was easy and reasonably cheap, and I did not arrive at work or home in a homicidal rage (except for about twice a summer).

A guy in our computer department rode every day.  He was knocked off his bike and all beat up a bunch of times.  The DC Benevolent Cab Association is about 1200 foreigners who share one stolen driver's license between them.  All the other drivers were only marginally better.  Add a thousand speed and light cameras, and terrible potholes.  Add tourists dragging their children's shoes over your gas tank for pictures.   If something bad happened (like the Pentagon on 911), traffic was dead stopped forever (maybe 5-6 hours).  The only way out of town was the Metro train.  None of the southern Potomac bridges to VA even have foot traffic sidewalks.

I was rolling home from Christmas on backroads in the Mini, had to pass
through a few little burgs... I was behind an SUV in a 35mph section of
one of them. As we exited the little town the speed limit went to 55.
The SUV stayed at around 45, and I stayed behind at a respectful
distance. When we came to a passing place (the double yellow turned
into a dotted line) I nailed it to pass. As soon as I was committed,
the SUV pulled all the way into lane I was using  Angry ... he then
sped up to about 70 at which point I realized I should just leave him
to it. We soon came to some other drivers, he passed two or three
of them on a double yellow and was gone.

Does it cross their mind later?
