there are lots of gout medications--allopurinol or colchicine for prevention...indocin for pain treatment or even narcotics--some steroid injections into the joints..MS isn't something FP's treat..new stuff is always on the horizon...sorry to hear  you are doing poorly...I have always been envious of that  4 bike burnout you posted.....

Gout SUX!!!  I've had a few bouts, all in the big toe joint...  Until this past summer, when I had my left knee flair up  Shocked

Worst pain I've ever experienced!  Doc gave me Prednisone and Vicodin  cooldude cooldude  The Vic's got me through the next 24, and the Pred's fixed the issue  Wink

Found out that Rhubarb is a major trigger for gout, and I had made 6 pies (ate two myself in about a week  uglystupid2 ). Now I know better  Wink

I just can not imagine having to go through what you do Dan and my wishes and prayers are with you for a solution.  I am sure you have done this but search out any kind of alternative treatment out there.  I heard a low fat vegan diet may help.  I would research anything Dr. Joe Wallach has or any others.

If you ever do that again, it would be a shame to waste those pies. So, when it comes to the leftovers just let me know.  I presently have the ingredients in the freezer for a rhubarb/strawberry pie, just waiting for a good excuse to make a mess in the kitchen.  Grin

As a side note, my daughter was telling me her mother(my former) was having a real problem with gout in her big toe and wondered if I had any suggestions. I told her (with a straight face no less) to get a pack of the largest finger cots or smallest condoms she could find and slip one over the big toe. Said to recall how pressure and support on a sort joint often made it feel better. My son-in-law told me of the scene he found when he got home from work one day. Neither my ex or my daughter would talk to me for quite some time.  2funny Evil

I get gout flare-ups. Here's what works for me.

Mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda in a tall glass of water, drink it down.
Wait 30 minutes.
Mix 1 tbsp. of a good apple cider vinegar in a tall glass of water, drink it down.
Keep alternating/repeating that, as you pi55 your brains out.

I typically do 3 glasses of each in an evening and get complete relief.
Might still feel it as I go to sleep, but it'll be GONE in the morning. Something about the acid/alkaline and gobs of water flushes out the joint's crystals. Sounds crazy, but it works.

My trigger seems to be BEER, so I routinely average less than 6 nice IPAs a week, typically one a night IF I have one. If I have 3 or 4 a couple days in a row, then Monday = GOUT.

Hang in there, Dan.

I agree...... Gout is a real pain.... LOL

Never knew I was a susceptible to it or had any trouble until end of last summer....

I thought I'd be healthy and eat a bunch of Fish.... worst thing I come to find out, along with Beer and most everything else in my diet.

Left Big Toe joint....Was sooooo painful I counldn't let the sheet touch it.. let alone wear a shoe.... Took meds and Doc said watch your diet and probably won't come back..... went away in a few days

Fast forward a few weeks... On my annual Fall Motorcycle trip.. 2 days in the middle of BFE West Virginia, I wake up and Damn Left Big Toe is swollen, red and really painful... of course its my Shifting foot and the closest Dr/Urgent Care/Hospital was 40 miles away!!!! Luckily I managed to wedge my foot in my boot and get there.. 5 hours later with meds, still managed to get in a 200 mile day... 2 days later was down with Joe and the bunch for a nice Saturday ride... ended up riding 1800 miles in all even with most of a day off because of the damn stuff.... although I did tend to roll a lot of stops for most of the time and ride in 4th gear... Wink

It just keeps getting better. I get gout now and then , it hurts yeah. So now my MS is making my limbs twitch. Imagine a foot that hurts bad to move MOVING at random. Only hurts when I move it or it moves by itself. GOODY anyway taking my gout medicine and flying low so to speak.

At least the eye patch is still on the shelf and nothing is paralyzed.....too bad that is

Gonna keep going as long as I can

Allopurinol every day

Drink water, drink water, drink water.

No beef. No strawberries, No sardines, No blue cheese, plus other stuff, no Bush Natural Lite beer. Miller Lite doesn't affect me.

Drink water, drink water, drink water.

No caffeine. Drink skimmed milk.

Most non med solutions work a little but not enough to guarantee gout free.

I have a touch of the gout, I don't take any medication! What I do for pain, or if I think I am going to have an episode, I drink a cup of Tart 100% cherry juice(Not Cherry Drink or Beverage) and take about a half a tea spoon of turmeric power. For me the pain subside in about an hour and a half for me. These can be bought at the grocery store.  I don't know much about MS, and I  am not a doctor.  Most people lack certain vitamins and one of them is magnesium, I would get these charlie horses or muscle twitches, this happened because my body was lacking magnesium, I take the magnesium and have no issues. Important thing, if you take medications, never take vitamins or supplements without contacting your doctor, because they can dilute or neutralize medications. Next time you go to doctor ask for blood test, check for, lead levels, magnesium and vitamin D deficiencies.

I've had bouts of gout in the past. Mostly in the toes. Big toe in particular and man does it hurt to walk and the pain is intense. Can't imagine what you are going through and wish you luck and speedy recovery.

This does remind me of a joke however.

A man suffered through chronic gout for decades. The pain was intense. He and his wife and 4 kids farmed in the country and he had never seen a doctor.

Every Sunday his wife would make the most incredible pot roast. The man loved his wife's pot roast and would put it away till he was stuffed.

One day, the day after the family's Sunday meal the man came down with the most acute case of gout he had ever experienced. The pain was so intense that he finally gave in and went to go see the doctor at his wife's request.

He goes in to see the doctor and the doc looks him over, got his history and was amazed at the severity of the gout.

The doctor asked what he's been eating lately and the man told him of his wife's spectacular pot roast.

The doctor told him "that's what is causing your gout. If you stop eating the pot roast that will stop the gout"

The man left and walked back to the waiting room. He was nearly in tears. He looked at his wife and said, "There is no cure"

I don't know much about MS, but have a little experience with gout.  I have several friends with gout and they all swear by mixing concentrated tart cherry juice with tonic water.  My mother had severe gout to the point that she could barely walk.  Unfortunately she was allergic to the prescription medicine prescribed by her doc.  She made the tart cherry juice and tonic water her main beverage throughout the day.  Cherry juice is a natural anti-inflammatory.  The tonic water will also assist in alleviating any muscle cramps.  Best of all it actually tasted good.  Best of luck.

I think all good tries have been posted with gout, give a few a try along with the meds of course.

My dad had severe gout in his ankles/feet for years ages 40-60s, enough to the point he was in a wheelchair several times could not put any weight on his feet/ankles to the point his shoes would not even come close to going on and skin started bleeding (skin ripping apart/peeling)  was 3-4x's the size his ankle area should be.  As he got older , he quit drinking beer (was drinking 2-5 per day everyday)  into his middle to upper 60s and the gout went away, with meds of course I think prednisone and allopurinol as what has been said.

Watch what you eat and drink I guess more so to alleviate the gout as what has been said on here.   No idea on MS, but am sure sucks big time.  Hang in there, I know it sucks feeling under the weather and miserable having not one, but now 2 issues.   Sad

If I my add,  turmeric is a spice, that is why mustard is yellow because it has  turmeric in it. In  turmeric there is curcumin in it, which is a natural pain killer. East Indian cooking generally uses turmeric in their cooking daily, and the have the lowest alzheimer's and heart diseases in the world. I use the spice and cherry juice and have no issues with gout any longer.

I have sarcoidosis and it is a bitch as well. I hurt daily especially my back and under my breast bone. My muscles and joints ache daily.  Chocolate / sugar, and definitely soda such as Coke really enhances the pain. So I avoid those as much as I can. I take Sulindac to take the edge off but sometimes that doesn't help. It's an arthritis drug. Most of the time it does but I have episodes where nothing helps.

What I eat plays a big part in how I feel. Most of the time I definitely know it's around. If I do a strenuous activity, I pay for it for a couple of days. So I have to watch what I do somewhat. Fatigue is one of the biggest problems. Not a fun disease either. When I asked how I got it? My doctor told me probably got into something in my 35 years in the fire service.  Either breathed or absorbed. Being in pain all the time will wear you out!

Seems many have good ideas on how to remedy gout but just wanted to chime in and say that baking soda can be taken everyday and may help lower the acid that caused gout.

I know many here have said that acid then baking soda helps but just wanted to say baking soda taken everyday may help and also may help keep regular bm's. Even those people that are taking some opioids may benefit from this since hard stools and constipation seem to go along with it. Baking soda is really a salt and it helps to regulate the body and pulls water into the intestines to keep them moving regularly. It also cleanses the kidneys and allows them to do their job more efficiently.

Sugar produces acids and a big no no even in people with hardening of the arteries or arterial inflammation thought to be caused by fat  and cholesterol may now turn out to be sugar.

Have you researched the use of CBD as an anti-inflammatory or consulted with a herbalist or physician about it's usage?  Having two strikes on the scoreboard may make a player step out of the batter's box and ask an umpire for a timeout to talk with the manager about approaching the next pitch. You are still in the game. Cool

I was getting occasional bouts of gout in my big toes. Hurt like hell.
Was on allopurinal  for years and one day stopped taking it on advice from a doctor. Cut my meat intake in half and drink 7 glasses of water a day. Have not had gout since

Thats what I said,, did not think I could do it,, but i did,, lost weight and now order an 8 oz steak, when I used to order a 32oz. Now I get full on an 8 oz.
Seems the protein in meat caused high uric acid levels which cause gout.
