Can you confirm what these bits are called? Are they the Reed Valves? The rusty bits in front of spark plug number 1.

Those tubes are part of the Smog system that run to the reed [pair valves x2] valves that are about 7" x 2"dia. [roughly] long mounted on top of your block just behind the thermostat. There are 4 of those tube running from both heads 1 upper & 1 lower on each head. If my memory serves right.

Desmogging removes all that junk...

Thanks very much, it will certainly be cheaper than replacing the pipes or having them re-chromed.  :cooldude:

There is a total of six of those tubes .One per piston. The two on top can be filled with freeze pluge. The bottom one i cut and filled with JB Weld.

Pharmboy helped me desmog mine last weekend following these instructions.  We also synced the carbs, replaced the intake O rings, and checked all the jets.  Then is rained all the past week! :tickedoff:  I got out on the road for the first time today and it was like riding a new motor! :cooldude:

Thanks guys, got to look into these 'freeze plugs' never heard of them this side of the Atlantic. I am certainly going to get rid of all the pipes following the instructions on this board.

To Ride or Not To Ride? RIDE of course!!!

Colin

Sorry to hear about your bad weather, ours this afternoon is 26C in the shade  :).

Just come back from a great bike meet in Calpe. About 300-400 bikes and a genuine German beer tent with a police escort for the group rideout around the old town and along the seafront. Met up with a German Valkyrie owner and a Spanish Rune owner who also owns a Valkyrie, both of whom live local. If you want to get a fix of sunny biking in Spain have a look at http://bopabikers.com and the Calpe Gallery.
