Finally got to take her for a ride today. If not weather it has been work.
First time out of the building in about three months. Glad I keep non
ethanol gas in it. Stopped in Conover NC to take a break when three
engines came by. Two of my favorite things my bike and trains.

Hey klb, Good to know I'm not the only one that's into trains too!
Love heading out looking for trains, usually can find  couple a day. Favorite spot to wait is the Hoosic Tunnel in Florida, MA.  Then chase em thru VT into NY. Or if it's heading east I chase it to the Deerfield yard, getting a pic at every crossing.
Ride Safe,

Hey NewValker, I have been into trains since I was in Connie Maxwell
Children's Home in Greenwood SC from the age of 7 til 11 years old.
Seaboard Coast Line had a big yard right beside the campus called
the Maxwell yard. I never outgrew my fascination with trains from
then. I have somewhere around 10,000 dollars in model trains boxed
up in the building. Had a spare bedroom with a elaborate setup until
my daughter came along 10 years ago.
I also chase the trains from time to time from Hickory to Old Fort NC
then head for better roads.

Once in a while I will run some of the model trains to keep them working.
Here is a video of one incorporating the Valkyrie.

They say just East of Revelstoke B.C theirs a tunnel where you can see an Engine coming out of the Mtn. and the last cars in the same train going in the Mtn..  I Was hoping to see this once but the catwalk where you could walk out on to see this was under construction.  In that area by Revelstoke I think(54?) People lost their lives in landslides so they built the train tracks to go into the Mtn., circle and come back out above or below where it goes in.

Here in New Haven I live only 1/2 mile from the NS tracks and only four miles from the home of the Berkshire 2/8/4 765 Nickle Plate steamer.  It's a sight to see (and hear) when it runs.

765 regularly runs every season hauling enthusiasts . It is completely restored and will soon be joined by an old Mikado steamer which will start the restoring process.

I made a stand off N scale of the local Railroad with scale models of the Norfolk Southern diesel and also 765.  Here's a pic

Two things that all "Kids" love are trains and motorcycles.

This is Norfolk Southern's 611

The pic was taken at the VA Transportation Museum. She wasn't fully operational then but she has since been completely restored and is fully operational. They are even doing excursion rides using her to pull vintage passenger cars.

This is Norfolk Southern locomotive #1776

She is now a permanent resident at the VA Transportation museum. In 1976 she was painted for the Bicentenial celebration and continued to pull trains around the country. I had an HO scale model of her when I was a kid. I've wondered what that would be worth if it was still in good condition.

There is an island here where I hunt that I found an old train engine on. There was never a bridge to the island, it has never had anyone living on it, no buildings or man-made structures, just swamp and woods. Have no Idea how it got there, but I have used it as a hunting blind before.

That would be an interesting mystery to figure out.

I'll bet if you started asking some of the old timers about it, that someone would know how it got there.
