Who puts it in neutral at traffic lights?

3.  who puts it in neutral after 1- many cars have lined up fully stopped behind you (and you still have a long wait for a green).

I do.   

Sometimes I shut the bike off, especially in hot weather.

Not unless there's enough cars behind me to absorb the impact of a rear ender.....generally, never.

Well Jack, I don't shut it off often, but there are a couple lights close to to my home where I can shut the bike off, leisurely put it on the stand, get off, walk to the trunk and open it up and have a cool drink of water, light a smoke, have a another cool drink or two, close the trunk, get back on, and still wait for the light.  I crap you not.  Timed quitting time traffic lights on the same Route 1 that runs from here all the way to someplace called Florida.  And I'm on a cross street, sometime after 4PM.  And by the time the light changes, there are say 20-30 cars lined up in each of two lanes waiting to go.  I love it here.    

In half this time, my radiator fan would be running.

I will shift it into neutral, but first I'll look in the mirror and see what's coming up. I never hold the cluch in and wait for the light to turn green.

According to the mc class we should have an "exit route planned" so for me I agree that when there is a  sufficient buffer behind us, going to neutral is OK. I prefer to have the bike in neutral and the clutch lever out. Same with both of our cars (manual)

I wait for the car buffer before going neutral and giving the hands a break.

Most the time I forget that I'm still in gear and just stay there ready to go. I also like to keep my right foot on the brake so I can keep my right hand available.

All of these habits subject to change depending on the situation and the light.
