I sadly missed last weekend's ride and meet.
I sat in a chair instead of a saddle for 2 days and my butt (read mind) needs to be on the bike rolling down the road. And with some good barbecue and pie I can make a complete recovery.
Anybody else have the urge?
I am open to suggestions for roads and eats.

Tyler sounds good.
And if John can make it that would definitely close the deal.

In the mean time let me wet your appetite with my picks:
I had in mind to stay a little closer and pick some roads around the Metroplex and have lunch at "Off The Bone"  http://offthebonebarbeque.com/ for pecan smoked Baby Back Ribs and fixings and then hit the road west and go to Norma's Cafe http://www.normascafe.com/ on West Davis for Pie and then head to the Dallas Hill county (Spur 408 / I-20 and west ward along Camp Wisdom road for some short scenic rides. Starting point somewhere in the middle of everybody who is going.

Hi Rainmaker,
I just looked at Charlie's in Tyler.
Here is a new plan:
We can take an easy ride to Tyler have barbecue.
Go out 80 to Mineola to Tyler.
Or out 175 to Kaufman, 243 to Canton and 64 to Tyler
Then go to Odom for pie, and while digesting all that, cruise home via Walton, Eustace, Gun Barrel City, Ennis, Waxahachie, Midlothian to 360 and go home
Then we have the perfect Trifecta: Miles, BBQ and Pie!

Works for me.  Where do we meet and when?  I can come to 635 and Hillcrest - just need to know the gas station! And keep in mind we need to be in Tyler at Stanley's by 11am per John's recommendations.  Edom, not Odom.

Hi Rainmaker and others,
I will meet you at 8:30 am at the Texaco on the SE corner of Coit and 635

Route 75, 175, 243, 64, Tyler.

About 2.5 hours
ETA 11am

John, look forward to seiing you.
If after the BBQ you want to give us a tour, that would be fun.
Our home bound route is flexible.

Well, just got back after 311 miles of smiles.  My son John and I rode over (he on his Big BF resurrected Tourer and me on the dependable Interstate) and met Captain Speedo around 8:40 (we were late) and headed down 75 to 175 to 243 to 64 into Tyler.  Met John Steifer at Stanley's BBQ at 11am.

No line, went right in.

Turns out we were there at the right time - 15 minutes later, the line was out the door and down the sidewalk.

Good BBQ - really good ribs.  Got just the right amount.

Then Mr. Steifer led us on a ride around Lake Palestine on the backroads, ending up in Edom at the Shed.

Never let a good opportunity to have pie pass you by, so we went in and got some.

Now we were stuffed!

Left and headed towards Canton, where Big John left us and turned back towards Tyler.  Rode with Speedo until we got to I-20 and son John and I waved goodbye and headed back to Arlington, home base.

Perfect weather -good roads and a good workout on the Tourer as it hit the road for the first time in 4 years.

Stanley's will go on my list for ribs.
The ride was perfect (no u-turns), light traffic, good roads, and some nice turns and twists.
We will have some more of these.
