Rock Island makes a full size 1911 style handgun that is delivered with both a 9mm barrel and a barrel made to shoot the .22 TCM. I had the rare opportunity to shoot one a couple months ago and had to have one! Mine is the original version and holds 17+1.
The TCM comes out of this barrel at around 2100FPS and a pretty good light show with each shot. Very little recoil, feels more like the push a .45 delivers but not that intense.
What's it good for? Probably not a great self defense round but it is a hoot to shoot and wicked accurate as well. Picture sucks for some reason but you get the idea. Take a gander at the video below.

Here's a comparison. .45ACP - 9MM - .22TCM

I've been intrigued by that pistola and caliber for some time.  Already have my quota of 1911s and can't find a good purpose for the ammo.  But I'm still intrigued.   I'll bet the ammo is steep, relatively.

Feel the same way about that FN 5.7×28mm. (which you cannot apparently get the good ammo for)

Now the Keltec PMR30, with a 30 rd mag of 22 magnum is not only intriguing, but doable (for me).  Then I could later be talked into a 22 mag auto rifle.  I like how I think.   Grin

I also have a new pistol I want to do a post on, but have not got to shoot it yet.  My local indoor range in winter is like sitting in a meat freezer (shivering guts).

Have had my hands on the Kel Tec and like that one a bunch but this packs a Hell of a punch compared to the .22 mag. Shot one a couple weeks ago. Think that gun is prob more expensive to shoot than the TCM is due to the fact you can pack 30 in the mag and the grin factor never goes away until you empty a mag, right?
Rounds are starting to come down in price. Glock now has kits for two of their guns to convert to the .22 TCM. A rifle is also coming out for this round so the popularity is starting to emerge a bit.

Main thing I'm thinking of is if you roll your own, roll 'em with FMJ and you've got an AP pistol, but then the pistol would be capable of massive over penetration too... So yeah, cool, but not sure the real purpose of it.

You need to come visit us here in The Republic! This was me out at my land last weekend with my new toy, Franklin Armory Binary trigger...  (Notice the heavy coat I was wearing. Wink )

Smart ass with the Tshirt in February.  (raspberries emoticon)  I can wear a Tshirt outside too, to the mailbox.

Is that a dedicated 22 AR or a 22 conversion kit, or 223 ?  (looks like 22 brass)

Looks like great fun, in any event.

I grew up with them all over, but have not had a single outdoor/woods/dump (public or private) private place to shoot since I left SoCal in '92.

It's a .223. When I do mag dumps like that I go with the cheap Russian stuff, so the cases might look odd, especially when they're flying that fast. (Lacquered steel instead of the brass good stuff)

I've gotten SO spoiled having my own private range, I can't stand going to a formal range anymore. Too many rules and restrictions and I don't know what the idiots on either side of me are doing...

Sorry not sorry, I'm threadjacking again, but at least it's still gun related... Smiley

This is a still of the gun in that video, it was a To Me From Me Because I Love Me Christmas present... Jack lower, PSA upper, and the Franklin Armory binary trigger for giggle switch fun without the $25,000+ price tag:

And of course, being 5.56/.223, so soft shooting even a 5 year old can handle it...

Just checked out the price for ammo. Wow. Almost twice the price of 9mm, and more expensive than 45acp. My question is why?.. I am not going to the range with it very often. If it does pack that much punch the size would make it awkward for most to Cary so that doesn't make sense either. It is as much a novelty gun as the Coonan I bought. Wife and I did check out the hk v9 in 9mm. Was impressed. Wife as usual did the research on it and according to all write ups it is supposed to be better than the block. We also spoke to several people that have it and they agreed their marksmanship improved immediately. Both sex's agreed on that.

I also apologize for drift, but...

Yes, I really like to take a project (or three) outside and futz around all day with sights, optics, ammo, distances, yada, and it's hard to do that on an organized range.  Ours are always crowded, there's no slow time.  And the guy with the .44 .454 always ends up right next to you, and the other side has the wife that holds the pistol sideways and points it at you (whether it's empty or not).  And a year mbrshp used to be about $150, and now it's $370, and it's still wall to wall.  I always get the far right shooting position against the wall when I can; it's the safest spot at any (handgun) range (but poorly lit at mine).

I should move, I really should.  It's just I've been in this house now longer than anywhere else in my life, fixed it up just like I want it, live alone, paid it off, and it's economical and very comfortable (like an old shoe)......NOT counting taxes.

Big D, what is a     ha v9?

$200k will get you a VERY nice house and a bit of land around the Dallas area... Just saying.... And if you don't get land, you'll get an open invitation to my land of course...

How much could you sell your VA house for? Wink

I could probably get what I want in TN where I always planned to move for $150-75.  My house might buy two.  It's not the money.  It's the hassle.  As much as I'd like TX for multiple reasons, I don't want the summer heat.  I want the eastern mountains (and to never see a city again as long as I live).    Smiley

Rob, I'll let you have it for half your offer (even furnished).  Just send me a check, I have a clear deed.   coolsmiley

Pappy, I'm sorry this has drifted so far.

I even found it for $16.25 a box (.32.5 cents).  That is not bad at all for a new hot rod cartridge.
https://www.outdoorlimited.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=arm22tcm9r

$325 a thousand is about the same as decent 5.56 runs.
https://www.outdoorlimited.com/Armscor-22-TCM-40gr-JHP-CASE-1000-rds-p/arm22tcm40grjhpcase.htm

.22 mag (also 40 grain) is only a dime less a round (and a far inferior cartridge).

I haven't studied on it, but it seems to me 40 grains of expanding HP at 2,100 fps is going to seriously slow someone down (and make him want to be somewhere else), if not immediately put him down.  And 17 in the mag leaves a few followups.  cooldude

Good for exploding feral squirrels too.   Grin
