Hey all
I've been sitting on a dental disaster for years now. Well April 17 is the day. For those of us who have suffered in a dentist chair. Imagine this. one day surgery general anesthesia. All old teeth removed implants installed . No more tooth ache pain........ EVER !!!
Last surgery I had was my tonsils. Given everything else I'm up against, this will put out a long simmering fire so to speak. I wish other things could be fixed so easily.
Now I got two months to quit smoking
Keep ya all posted
Dan

Lordy!! I can't imagine going through all of that in one day. Yep, quit smoking and take up drinking that very day....seems like a good idea to me.

Dan,
Good luck with all of that! You're climbing another mountain in life... something we all must do. Nothing else to do but keep on pressing ever higher. You've already ascended some peaks none of the rest of us can imagine, so... I have every confidence you'll take this hurdle in stride, too, reducing it to little more than a speed bump. We'll all keep a good thought for you, and we'll all look forward to a positive report after the procedure...

Dan wow, just wow ! Wish you the best of results and end of the pain but it will be a month or so till the soreness goes away in your jaw.
I had 2 molars and a broken eye tooth out (novacaine) last month. Doc put some kind of dead bone pieces in to get my jaw to grow more bone to hold the steel posts proper and told me to come back in 8 weeks for wing xray before they can put posts in. They used a really small socket wrench driver to put the post in another molar years ago, pretty cool. Could almost pay for a wedding for what it costs (no dental insurance)
Amazing that you will be able to get it all done at once.
If you can get some Thai Stick to go along with the Oxy you should be fine, maybe a brother can hook you up - I dont smoke so no help here. Seriously, take the stuff they give you for a few days and best of luck to you

Evan, that's so 70's Do they even have Thai Sticks anymore ? (I think Dan may be hooked up, he said he made a trip to CO.) Dan, if there is anything I can help with give me a call. Except for the Thai Sticks.

Holey mackerel Dan. Best of luck with that.
Last time I had an impacted wisdom pulled, he put me under.
When I stumbled out of the chair, I happened to to look in the mirror, and I had a size 12 Converse tennis shoe print on my forehead. (and that was just one)

I had a mouthful of veneers [15] installed a number [13] of years ago [$1k/each]. Easy.
But now they are starting to fail. I was told that the radiation may have that effect. They are $1300/each now.
Before that I had 4 wisdom teeth removed which required a hospital stay as they were all growing straight forward rather than downward. The jaw had to be broken and reset.

best of luck in recovery, that first 1-2 day is a bitch afterwards. It seems like when I go to the dentist not going after a few years all is fine NO cavities but if I keep going every 6 months, they always find cavities 6 months AFTER the past 6 months, so I decide to not go as often... Worst I have ever done is all 4 wisdom teeth fully embedded taken out at once age 18. I was on a trip getting off thought I was drunk being woken up after knocked out with laughing gas, but when the meds wore off I was such a wimp crying it hurt so bad that first day at home going home. Make sure you get plenty of gauzes for any bleeding afterwards since they gave me just a few gauzes and my bleeding afterwards was really excessive needing 10x's the amount of gauzes to soak up all that bleeding.

Good luck Dan on both accounts. Quitting smoking will be the best thing that you have ever done for yourself. I am grateful everyday that I am no longer a slave to tobacco.

My mouth is a freaking disaster as well. Fortunately still have 20 (or so) of the originals - but implants for molar replacements are WAY OUT OF my budget ($5000 each).
All 4 wisdom teeth taken out at once at Scott AFB hospital within 3 months of coming on active duty. Absolutely NO ROOM for them, and some were impacted to boot.
Orthodontic work done in my 30's in washington DC. Also involved dental surgery to remove one that was in front of the normal arch. That helped alot on being able to take care of what I had.
And now they're trying to take my remaining molars out - already wearing a partial on the lower right.
I hate going to the dentist.....

Good luck with the new chompers, Dan. I can't afford implants, so I'm saving my pennies for a set of these. Think I'll try a permanent install with some gorilla glue.

If I could cash out all the money I've put into my mouth...
Had my last wisdom tooth and one more tooth pulled about 3 weeks ago, that's quite enough for me. (Lost 10 pounds the first week, just didn't want to eat)
Hope it all goes well and gives you some well deserved relief! Tooth aches are the suck!
You got any plans on how to stop smoking? It can screw with your head so you need to know about it going in, but Chantix helped me BIG time, but it's NOT for everyone!

Bout 15? year ago or so-maybe more-went thru similar thing. As I wuz still drivin truck and needed all the teeth that were left to come out at the same time instead of 3 or 4 different visits. Which translated to 6 to 8 weeks as I Only got home every other weekend at that time. Went to a couple of dentists before I found one that would do it all at once. Fer 2 weeks nuttin but soft food-ya git burned out on soup oatmeal and scrambled eggs REALLY Quickly! IF yer SERIOUS bout quittin smokin JUST lay the cursed things down and leave em be! When I laid mine down I wuz at bout 4 and a half packs a DAY-NOT a misprint-4 and a half packs a day. Course I weren't That strong on my own-had GOD in my corner cuz I told him-You give me a hand with this quittin smokin thing and I are done. He did cuz I've been and remain Smoke Free fer awhile now. Course the stuff I suck into my lungs now is Oxygen which I NEED cuz my lungs are all screwed up. Good Luck Dan-I'll offer up a Prayer or three fer ya! RIDE SAFE.

Thank you all
It's not gonna fix my multiple sclerosis but needs to be done. It's the whole one day thing that really makes it nice. Not cheep by any means but one day done...... thank you lord.
This should be easy compared to some other medical experiences I've had. A pair of first year medical students doing their first spinal tap........ on YOU !!!!
Yeah I like to be prepared I'll get all my meds lined up food etc
Don't know about tobacco yet but I got time
Thanks again all

Hey D, best on that. The dentist & hygienist had been after me for years to have the wisdom teeth pulled. I said they ain't broken so why fix it. He sez "you're gettin older, they WILL be broken, right now they are providing a petri dish for bacteria which attack the rest of your teeth - we can't clean under the gum line of wisdom teeth. That's why you lost # 15 2 yrs ago and # 2 now." "OK doc, go ahead." So they yanked out all 4 plus #2 Tues. under local anesthesia. I wasn't worried about his competence; knew he could get them out with minimal trouble in the chair. But dreaded the following month with 5+ times the pain of the extraction 2 years ago. At least there were no compounding problems. The pain is finally slowing down. Gave me some good meds. Have less cold sensitivity than 2 years ago and the whole-jaw ache is almost gone. We picked up a puree maker - stick blender I guess you'd call it. Can turn pretty much anything into baby food so no chewing. Get one if you don't have it already. Yeah buy any kind of soup (or home-make it if ambitious) and whizz it with that thing and you get the nutrition w/o the pain of chewing. I like the KitchenAid one - better than the Braun one we used to have, as the part with the cutter separates from the motor for cleaning. Here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=kitchenaid+hand+blender+immersion&tag=googhydr-20&index=garden&hvadid=176970029737&hvpos=1s1&hvnetw=s&hvrand=5056118758186466615&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1014485&hvtargid=kwd-15595751305&ref=pd_sl_83rrbxhtvz_bInterestingly, I can't help folks out with MM just cause I'm from CO. With CO plates. Some LEO outfits use the plates as "probable cause" to search. Can't even put it in any of my vehicles. Not that I would anyway of course. I gave that up decades ago after I burned out on it during the nam. But it's a shame, everyone alludes to my having some "great crap" knowing I'm from CO but I'm less likely to have it than pot tourists. At least they don't have plates that say "search me". So I can't "share" with some lifelong pals in a very special, rare, social situation in their state. I gave up smoking 25 years ago. No form of tobaccky has passed my lips since 20 May 92. It was not my first attempt to quit. But it was successful. I used the patch. And took the class. That was really helpful. Good luck on all that.
