Ok this might be a stupid question , but how do you pay for something if you buy off of the classifieds here to protect yourself and the seller.
I was thinking Pay Pal but wasn't sure?
Thanks in advance for any responses

If you don't know them ask for a US Postal Money Order.

Britman, I would be the buyer, so I should go to the post office and get a money order to send to the seller? I have always used PayPal on Ebay and such, but never bought from an individual on here

If you use paypal and don't "know" the person you are buying from always use the goods and services method of payment.  If you use paypal on Ebay I am probably preaching to the choir here but just in case.  Friends and family method gives you no protection.  Goods and services gives you a recourse if the person does not send the item or it is a piece of junk.    Actually Paypal is my preferred for this reason.  The postal money order to my knowledge only guarantees the person receiving the m.o. that he is going to get his money.

Has the seller told you what payment they will accept?

How long has the seller been on this forum?

I have always been hesitant purchasing items for my Valk online through Ebay, etc although I have done so using PayPal over the years and have only been "burned" once with the item not being as represented...luckily it wasn't a significant item/cost.
I have however, made several purchases through the VRCC Classifieds with sellers I only know of through this site having never met them in person, both with PayPal and by sending a money order. On each of these occasions I have been 100% satisfied with the item itself and the delivery, and have also enjoyed the interaction with the members themselves. Especially when I see that it's a member who has been active on the Technical or General forums as well and not just logging on onetime to Classifieds to flog an item, I am comfortable with sending $$ directly and trusting what I am getting in return.

I have been buying and selling stuff through the classifieds here on this board for years. I have always accepted personal checks and have almost always paid by personal check. Once or twice a seller asked for a postal money order and that was fine. If you have a VRCC number your check is good with me.

Bought and Sold here and I will NOT take pay pal. You have been here fer a bit with more than 10 posts or so Shouldn't be a problem. Key word-shouldn't. What I've figured out here is most-99.9999% of us-are Honest as the day is long. As small as our community is a bad deal breaker on either end-Do NOT wanna be THAT person.  uglystupid2 I've sent stuff on approval with but one caveat-you Don't like it just pay ALL shipping both ways. Never had Anything retuned. Check their profile and see When they registered to the board. Chances are with one or two posts they just registered to sell sumpin!  Lips Sealed In that case ya takes yer chances.  tickedoff Use a bit of common sense-It's ONLY a good deal WHEN the seller and purchaser are both HAPPY.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Thank you all for your replies, I have decided to bite the bullet and buy a new set of Ultimate seats instead of taking a chance on this "good deal" on the classifieds.
Just not worth the hassle, and the seller was talking to me for a phone call or two, but stopped when I asked him to tell me what shipping would cost.
Oh well, on to the next big thing

I signed up for paypal when they opened their doors.  Have never had a problem.  I like the protection of buyer & seller, as well as not giving out CC card info.  I have been burned by intellectual property theft using CC's, but nothing like that on PP. Of course my bank backed me up on the thefts but what a hassle cancelling accnts and getting new numbers, and advising all my auto-pay accounts.  Most online commerce accepts PP nowadays.  If you don't use it - you are severely limited in what you can do esp on ebay. Who now owns PP. (or vise-versa, forget which)

I have made a handful of purchases in the short time I have been a member, I have sent postal payment and personal checks. I have no problem allowing time for check to clear and so far the deals have been positive Smiley
