There have been a couple of inquiries about posts that were recently removed.

The Rules of the Road in general terms calls for respectful communication and avoiding making one's post about the individual with whom you disagree rather than the subject.  I interpret using an altered or demeaning name for the person one is addressing as disrespectful.  I interpret posts of nothing more than laughing or ridicule in response to another's post as disrespectful.  Such posts when I come across them will be removed.  Any posts that have quoted the removed post will be removed as well.

About half the people participating in a public message board will be below average in intelligence.  That is the general distribution within the population.  We may be actually a little higher as we are generally older than the population at large and a number of those in the lower half may not survive to our ages.

In general that means that some of the entries on the bulletin board will be down right stupid in nature.  It's really not respectful to pick one out and say so directly.  I know sometimes I have crossed over that line but there just isn't normally anyone ready to remove my posts (the pres excepted).  Sometimes if we find a particular idea or person intensely distasteful our best behavior would be evidenced by our simply moving on and not responding to such a post.

Post your thoughts but do keep them respectful.  The purpose of the message boards is to serve all their participants.

Your explanation here - I can't help but be reminded of the debates Biden participated in.  Too bad you weren't empowered to apply the Rules of The Road here to edit those events.  Apparently derision as a reponse rather than meaningful discourse is acceptable at the 2nd highest levels of our "leadership". But thankfully we at the VRCC take the High Road.

I've said the same thing several times.

Ignore them, do not talk to them.  Do not answer them.  And they will go away.  Or stop their argumentative/pick-a-fight posts.

Some cannot stop taking the bait.  And that's what it is.

I was the moderator of the Valk site over on Delphi for a few years.  We had like like 10-15 regulars (if we were lucky).  But there was one guy who was a loose cannon, and every so often would just go off on someone, calling him all kinds of names.  I suspected this happened when he was drinking.  Asked him to stop, but he wouldn't.  I could have banned him, but on Delphi you could BOZO someone.  How that worked, the guy can post and can see his posts, but no one else can see them (except the moderator).  They wonder why no one is rising to the bait.... ever.  It's kind of a dirty trick, but he earned it.

Shouldn't say anything, but that kinda rubs me the wrong way. Sounds like a bit of condescension to me. But I might just be envious as with my bad vocabulary I have trouble putting words together and not able to always express myself to my satisfaction. I have known people that probably don't fit the intelligent profile but are very talented in other ways. Just saying.

It has been my observation that NO ONE on this board has problems expressing themselves so that others can understand them.

Now whether what they said is getting perceived the way they wanted....  2funny coolsmiley Grin

I think because we are all Valkyrie owners, we have demonstrated above average intelligence. Therefore I'd suggest only maybe 20% here are below average.  Wink

What meathead said is correct.  It's simple mathematics.

My point was that when someone gets disrespectful or demeaning it is usually either condescension or implying that the target is stupid.  My point is that it's fairly easy for anyone to take that viewpoint, correct or incorrect.  We need to deal respectfully even with or maybe especially with folks that we believe are intellectually our inferiors.

It's pretty natural for us in a heated discussion to assume that the people on the other side are there because they're stupid and we're smarter.

I'll bend to Beardo's analysis.  Let me correct my statement to half the people on the board are below the board's average and half are above.

Just FYI Willow is not the only person here that can and does delete posts. I deleted a couple the other day that used the word liberal in them. As a moderator it is our duty to delete such posts. For me it is not about personal feelings but about the health of the club.
Carl don't fool yourself into thinking that I would be afraid to pull your posts. You must adhere to the same rules of the road as the others.  cooldude

"liberal" is not allowed any more?
I can see this if someone in here is being called one but if it is being used as a descriptive generalization of a group of folks and their behavior......?

Based on us having a few liberal members that haven't given up yet, even a generalized usage of liberal to describe liberals would still include our membership in it.

Same as using RepubliKKKann would include any conservatives here, even if it were used as a more generalized term.

But really... Can't we concentrate on discussing the issues instead of using silly terms for each other?

(Disclaimer - Not an admin, just my views, worth exactly what you paid for 'em, etc. etc. etc. And yeah, I'm not fully innocent of this myself, won't claim be, although I try to at least be a little creative in my verbiage Wink )

Point well made Serk.

I may have let one slip every now and then, but I do try and avoid using terms like that.  If you've seen O Brother, Where Art Thou, you'll recognize the scene.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZocpwWLsyE

If you can't make a statement without using those familiar descriptors, maybe a time out away from the keyboard is in order.

It's interesting that you are disappointed in this.
Personally the term doesn't bother me that much. But it does tend to make me gloss over everything else the poster says. As far as what Serk said about a few liberals that haven't given up yet. I get the feeling that there are SOME who would be happy with the rest of them giving up.
Thankfully I have made many friends here that are on the opposite side politically than myself. I think if it weren't for that I would have given up also.

Same for me, MH. I know my opinions aren't always met with open arms, and there are some here that make the forum experience less than cordial. But there are more than a few members with a different viewpoint than mine that I feel I can call friends. Others, not so much, but I'm working on it..... Wink

But, I've lived in central Florida for over 50 years so by most definitions that makes me a......  cooldude .......southerner. In addition to that, I love the New England states of N.H., Vermont, Maine, Mass....not so much, and the great western states of Colorado, Wyoming, N.Mehico. For great hunting/fishing Wisconsin & Minn. are hard to beat. But fishing on the bayou in Loozana is among the best. What to do, guess I'll take a nap.  Undecided
