Is not Irish. We were in Ireland on St. Patrick day several years ago and sought out what we thought was a traditional dish. They never heard of it(?) Shepards pie or lamb stew was more traditional. Corned beef and cabbage is actually Jewish. When the immigrants from Ireland arrived in America , they looked for a food source that was cheap and plentiful. The established Jewish population was using the cheap cuts of meat that some thought were not unusable and doing a preserving process called corning. To supplement this diet , they used cabbage which was cheap and readily available. A simple process of boiling the meat and cabbage together for a meal. I know some will look it up as I did. I learned this several years ago. I am of Irish blood. da prez

Yeah, I never saw it once while over there. As a side note, we found the best food not to be in the restaraunts but in the pubs.

And for some reason, in every restaurant I have ever been at in the NYC metropolitan area Corned Beef and Cabbage is the special on Thursday I understand Mark Baker has been trying his hand at making Corned Beef after I turned him on to a bodacious sandwich several years ago. Hayhauler how was it? it doesnt seem very likely at this time but if I can swing it to go to GOTF this year maybe he will save me some

Great Grandpa came from the Old Sod. Grandpa was just as intense as he was. Grandpa would get so annoyed at the St. Patty's day folderol. It was HILARIOUS!! He'd have a big plate of potatoes and mutton. We'd also be decked out in our orange shirts. He was a lookout boy in St. Louis in the 20's/30's. They paid him in TWA stock. Cant have a good protestant boy touching dirty mob money. Theres . 06 cents.

Damn ya made me hungry fired up Jade & ran to the sto, 70° today - it's in the pot now. Hafta cook it soft, first meal not soup after getting wisdom teeth yanked a week ago. Good meal to break the jaw back in - tired of bland soups, plenty of flavor in boiled dinner!

Being Irish from the Boston area I love a good corned beef on rye sandwich. I went into a store one time that had it on the deli menu. I ordered it an watched the Mexican girl start to make the sandwich. I knew this was going to be a disaster. Now not saying anything bad about young Mexican girls but it wasn't going to work out. Well she put mayo, lettice, tomato and other stuff before I could stop her. Needless to say I did not buy that sandwich, it was a mess. Now I'm hungry.

As an aside-NEVER order a Chicago meatball sandwich in Seattle. RIDE SAFE.
