Do Your Best and Miss the Rest!

Yorkville, Illinois

« on: February 23, 2017, 02:35:54 PM »

Since we have the location of IZ this June, I hope it's not too early to request those familiar with the area to share their GPS routes and or gpx files. There are so many great roads and parks to discover----such as Beartooth Pass, St Joseph Highway, Cody, Custer, Bozeman, Yellowstone, etc.

I would love to have my GPS preprogramed before Inzane so I won't miss out on the best roads and Landmarks.

Even if it's to point out links on other websites, I'd appreciate it greatly!

Directions of good routes would even work and we could create the route using Garmin software quite possibly

Thanks

Hey Russ, I haven't ridden up there so no first hand info. But most of the info I've gotten off of this site has been pretty accurate.

Thanks, Rob....will check that out also. The more ammo we get, the better! Nothing more aggrevating than coming home from a nice trip of a couple thousand miles only to find out I missed some cool site/landmark and I was right in the area and didn't know about it. I'm hopeful this will be a very memorable trip. Maybe several of us can benefit from this thread if it keeps growing.

I'm very sad I won't be able to make it. I love riding new areas.  cooldude I've been thru there a few times in a car or motorhome, but it's not the same.

Once you open a map, click on "share" to d/l.
Note that the fies will show as "tracks" in BaseCamp so you'll have to convert to "route"...one click.

Good luck.

Cant miss it. Get on 90 and head west. Take 212 to Red Lodge. I believe there is a truck stop at the exit to 212. Its prob a hour to hr and a half to Red lodge. Get gas.  Grin Proceed on 212, which is the Beartooth HWY. Once you come down the pass it will flatten out a half mile. Chief joseph HWY to Cody WY is on the left. IMHO its better then BT pass. If you don't turn there continue forward, on 212 to Cooke City MT. Its 3 hrs from Billings. Longer if you stop at all the overlooks on the pass. Cooke City is 4 miles from Yellowstone. CC is a nice place to stay. Done it for a couple yrs. Horseback rode up in the mntns there. Once your in YS its another half hr or hr till you 'see' anything. Your looking at a 6-8 hr round trip from YS back to Billings. I would not do the pass or be in YS by dark.

Expect a long day doing Billings to YS. Spend the night in CC to enjoy more of YS. Spend a night in Cody if you do CJH or its still a 6-8 hr round trip.

It can be cold or 'cool' on Beartooth. Check with locals each time you go to the pass to make sure it is open. It can close at a moments notice. It will only be open a couple weeks by the time IZ rolls around so there should be some awesome snow drifts.
