From: http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/28/world/french-historian-held-at-airport-trnd/He is a famous historian that is specialized in holocaust and post-war history and was on his way to Texas to present a lecture. He has being travelling to USA for the last 30 years. Apparently he was about to be deported because he was on a tourist visa, his luck is that the Texas University professor who invited him contacted the university lawyers and the French consulate and they were able to stop the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on time. So, let me see the profile: a) Old guy. b) White. c) French citizen. d) Jew. e) University professor. So... must be a terrorist? This kind of attitude won't make things safer or better in USA.

Lets see
He was NOT deported The system worked to ensure that he had immediate review and he got to give his lecture The whole TSA and immigration team is now under scrutiny and learned a lesson about fine print
The USA is a great place and all travelers like the great man who was giving the lecture are welcome
Meanwhile my daughter born here is almost always stopped by TSA and subject to what I consider inhumane treatment while she is crying because some piece of human excrement and his friends blew up the WTC and EVERY american travelling in public air transport is subject to the same

He said he thinks this is the new spirit for immigration, much more suspicious and frankly a hostile take on these things. Suspicious? EXCELLENT!!! Not like we don't have reason to be "suspicious". Hostile? Hmmm........ The detainee's perspective, I wonder how he reacted to the detainer's questions? Wasn't there but, I'm glad to see HLS doing their jobs. This isn't the same world we lived in thirty years ago. Just imagine if the terrorist's that were flying those planes on 9/11 had been "detained" how our lives might be different...............

I too have been irritated by TSA and have had arguments with them. But, they do have a job to do as long as they use some 'common' sense and act properly.
These are different times than a couple decades ago. This happens to be a necessary evil.
I too am interested in knowing what is considered inhumane treatment. Also why the man was held up for 10 hrs. If the security people are not doing their jobs properly then changes need to made.

Might not happen every time, but could happen any time.

I'm not a fan of the security-theater of the TSA, but they stopped using the nude scanners five years ago... https://www.wired.com/2013/01/tsa-abandons-nude-scanners/Edit - And the current millimeter wave scanners used in the States are used in numerous Canadian airports as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millimeter_wave_scanner#Canada

There are currently over 500k people in this country that have over stayed visas, some for years. Things are not going to be the same.
Back in 2002 I was detained at a DOT weigh station for an hour and half. The master checked everything out with my hot shot vehicle and proper documents and all was good. However he went through my background questioning why I moved from CA in 1996, and from MI to CA in 83 and such. He gave me the third degree about non sense. He kept mentioning 911. I do not think he had the right to do any of this, and I objected but not to harshly as I new he could find something wrong with my equipment if he wanted to so I submitted. Any truck can be found to if they want, even a brand new one. ( that is another story in Ricmond, IN ). I remember saying do I look like a terrorist or anything in my background that resembles one. When he finally sent me on my way I told him I will look for a real terrorist and if I find one will send him his way so he can get the credit. One will not find any stories in regular news sites that speak of some of the travesties that go on with just regular folk.

Ya do know, they have those "surplus" auctions, might make a great "get to know ya" party conversation starter.
