Love anything aviation related. If it weren't for my fear of needles I'd have become a pilot.

Airways and position reports. Airways and intersections are easy to find and intercept and still have to be done manually by some of us. Position reporting now done automatically, but, still done manually/voice by those of us in the small stuff.
All this was a bit more difficult and time consuming before GPS. GPS has certainly made many things much easier, especially flying.
Nice video.

Had a plane and flew for years. Started with very limited electronic nav, and by the time I sold the plane had GPS and Autopilot. Loved it and was easy to use. Now I flow low on a valk.  cooldude

Do they have to get more immunizations than normal ? Or are they required to become heroin addicts ?

Blood draw for the FAA physical... In lieu of college my parents were gonna send me to commercial pilot's school, I took my first lesson, did a flight in a Cessna to make sure I could handle it without barfing, got signed up for classes, saw the requirement for the blood draw for the physical and dropped it all immediately...

I don't like to watch it. But as long as I look away I'm fine.

We're digressing but try a Thoracentesis.  I had three within three weeks when I had pleurisy.  They stick a big needle through your back between the ribs into your chest cavity to draw the fluid out (I had so much it was collapsing my lung).  It's not a much fun as it sounds, but at least its all going on behind you so you can't see what's going on.

I was reading the thread about GPS pairing, and Bitching Betty was mentioned.

Here's the 'real' Bitching Betty, F-18 style....

I used to fly a Piper Tomahawk, but with no local clubs for hundreds of miles and because the hobbs (hour) meter turns on with the master switch it got expensive to fly often enough for me to feel safe.

Flying is kinda like riding,, the hardest part to learning how is the ground!
