Had an appointment to take the VAlk to get her annual NC safety Inspection / Oil&filter change.

Low last night in the mid 20's, was probably in the low 30's when I departed for the dealer in Henderson, and in the 40's - 50's heading home.

The Chippewa boots worked as advertise (water proof and insulated - warm feet), Carrhart bib overalls (insulated) for my legs along with dual layer LL Bean jeans, and a sweatshirt / LL Bean jacket (rated to 0 F), gauntlets and Applewarmer (with helmet) . All was warm / tolerable except my hands / fingers and my cheeks ! The Chippewas make shifting rather tricky (very bulky) - nice thing about a VAlk - get it in 5th over 35 MPH and shifting is optional Smiley .

The Valk had no real issues starting, but the turn signal flasher, like me, doesn't like cold either. It really doesn't work normally until about 45-50 degrees or warmer, which normally works out for me.

Would a replacement flasher unit take care of this, and can you find them ?

Take the left side control box apart. First place a large towel under the left handlebar. Remove the small Phillips screw and take out the thumb knob. Spray some contact cleaner in there and regrease with a light dielectric grease. Super Lube at Ace will be fine. The cold weather issues will go away for many years.

Got out 5 times this past December. 35 -40 degrees. Out and about town for a few hours in santa suit, gloves, boots. Actually kind of pleasant.

Rode to work one day a few years ago and it was 7 degrees. (Was working on a streak at the time)
probably will not do that again.

Turn signal issue sounds like greased up ur gummed up switch. Take it apart carefully and clean out all the old grease and oil build up. I use WD-40 to degrease. Sometimes contact cleaner. A light coat of grease to reassemble. Be sure the ball that gets depressed when pushing in the switch is well cleaned. Should feel and work like on a new bike when finished.
