I wonder if they factored that in their thinking ? Also thought it was humorous when Trump said they 100% American made. Shocked

I did not hear him say 100% american made

He did say made in america  and I watched the message to congress twice that night, once live and once when Bonnie got home from teaching and try to read the texts of his speeches as well as the texts of the executive orders before I post an opinion

We as Honda Valkyrie owners all know when the % changed and why

As for myself I am no lover of Harleys, but I admire their beautiful paint combos (I also like the 01 black and red Valk and the jade and black valks), their marketing prowess and the mystique they have generated thru the years   If some of that stardust can help Harley and other manufacturers to produce or assemble in the USA I am for it

As a kid I loved Kennedy, now I know he was imperfect whether screwing up with the CIA in Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, letting his brother screw Marilyn, setting the stage for welfare which killed the nuclear family for blacks and minorities whatever,   You may love Obama but he was no savior, he enabled enemies of our constitution and country and he robbed our children of security by doubling down on the debt.  If Trump did not win it was a matter of just a few years before we no longer could sustain being a superpower and have our markers called by the chinese. It still will be a hard battle to do what we need to do IMHO to survive with our way of life

If history shows the last Potus illegally (using a secret executive order) wiretapped, leaked secrets, and used his office to funnel millions to a place other than the treasury or was a foreign born  it would not surprise me    and it should neither surprise you.

There are some good people working for our security and other agencies, the truth will out

You might be right about the 100%. Maybe he just said American made. If history shows Obama was not born in Hawaii , illegally wire tapped, funneled money, I would be surprised. Would you be surprised if what Trump said was complete BS ?

Could be BS could be he was misled,we don't know. I'm for giving him time. Any new president needs time to get used to and learn how to run a country. They all make mistakes and some are crooks an liars. Probably most. I will trust no politician or business man CEO. I will give Trump time and if he turns out to be a bad president I'll vote again even though it may be my last time. I'm not getting younger. I wanted to see some shake up in DC an someone who would stand up to the dictators in the world, we'll see.

Yes the CIA and others have Misled many Presidents, now we have more intelligence agencies, quantity better than quality is yet to be determined but leads must be followed

One of the reasons for the kitchen cabinet was to minimize the chance of this happening  How sad that the party no longer in power is keeping the new President from even now being able to seat his cabinet instead of vowing to work WITH the President and negotiate changes to proposed legislation

I give you as an example Tip O'Neil and Ronald Reagan

Instead of screamin bloody murder, protesting etc why dont the protesters and demonizers try to work with the system?

Its a rhetorical question  as it wont happen

and you all know that many Harley owners will continue look down on Valkyrie's in public while in private dreaming of owning a 6 if they only had the balls to be different

Evan, his Cabinet is being seated. Maybe not as fast as you would like, but the the Democrats have little power to stop it. I too long for the days of men like Tip O'Neil and Ronald Reagan. Seems "Statesmen" are in short supply these days.  Embarrassed

I could not read the Forbes article due to my add blocker.  Did catch snipets about it from other places.  It said that Vietnam would no longer have a tariff on Harleys - really.  Every country has a 20 to 144 percent additional tariff, or other tax that they give clever names, on our goods. And Vietnam, India and all of the east are scooter markets.  Maybe Harley should start building scooters.  We let theirs in for free and we tax our exports at 20 percent to boot.  Does not sound like free trade to me, instead a scam created by the stupidest negotiators in the history of man and Trump has always railed ( and rightly so against this ) against back into the 80s.   Even my college professors, especially Dr. Dale Haywood in the mid 70s exposed how stupid they were then when we had bilateral deals.  Ross Perot, Pat Buchanon, Dick Gephardt, Marcie Kaptor, Jim Traficant ( any many others said back in the early 90's this was a race to the bottom.

Forbes like all these think tanks and policy institures,  both right and left are in Love with so called Free Trade ( it is not ) instead of what should be the new doctrine of protecting your most valued commodity and that is the American Worker and high level of standard of living we had created.  This standard has fallen since Nafta, GATT and the WTO went into effect, and our trade deficit has ballooned to almost 1 trillion per year of money going out and too much cheap, throw away crap coming in.   Fair Trade should be the new doctrine as it was in the past, and I am happy that more and more people are starting to get it, instead of scratching their heads and wondering what went wrong.

China has a policy , If it is not made in China then the people do not need it. Harley sold there long enough to find a market then had to build a plant to produce the bikes. It happened to Ford , GM. BMW, Mercedes and others.
An old neighbor of mine designed , engineered and produced  the proto type leather bag for Harley in 1996 (if I remember right). This was the huge saddle bag that they touted. Because she believed in them and no agreement was signed , HD sent the prototype to China to produce the bags for about a fourth of the money.  I see HD parts come in with China labels on them.

I do not recall in the last few decades, a President that was so publicly vocal in encouraging business, both big and small. I'm sure some can find some clips of past Presidents visiting factories and such, but Trump heralds the growth of companies. Showcases them publicly.

If you are an entrepreneur you must be buoyed by the President's enthusiasm of business and the support of a great business climate.

I can't say that great things are going to happen. But with this new found attitude for business at the Country's executive level, greatness has a real chance now.
