from Amsterdam to NYC

Hi fellow valk riders!

I'm moving for work from the Netherlands to New York and I'm trying to get my 1998 valk shipped over with me. Turns out the shipping isn't that hard but having it actually accepted into the country is.
According to relocation company they need "A notarized letter from the manufacturer confirming it meets all US DOT & EPA regulation" for the Valkyrie to be able to start the import process.

I tried calling up Honda USA and asking them for Compliance Letter but since they don't recognize my VIN number (since its not a US VIN) they don't want to do it and tell me that I should go via a registered importer. (which sounds like an expensive way of buying a motorcycle I already own)

Does anyone have any experience importing a Valkyrie into the US? (apparently mine is a German version)
Any tips/tricks to obtaining the Compliance Letter?
Or does anyone know any registered importers that specialize in Valks or regular non-epic motorcycles?

Any help would be appreciated!

Ouch!

Are you sure you want to import the bike?  Maybe sell yours in Europe and buy another here; you will be money ahead.  Bikes made for Europe fall under different specs for various things, they are very similar but certification standards are still different.  I lived for a time in Europe and considered much the same, but was advised unless it is a Lamborghini leave it in Europe.

Best of luck

+1 for selling it in Europe.

IIRC, valks are more expensive in Europe. You should be able to find another good bike in US and actually save some money and lots of time in the process.

That would be my advice as well.

There are many good Valks for sale in the US.

You'll probably get more money out of yours by selling it there as well.

If it were mine and I had anything on it that was made out of, "Unobtanium" I would remove it before I sold the bike.

If it's the black and copper that isn't available in the US I might consider swapping out some tins first.

Thanks for the responses and the advice!

I decided to do as you all said and sell my valk in Europe and buy a new one in the USA. I did try and see if there would maybe be another way but everything I tried I ended up hitting a wall.

So now my valk is sold (very sad feeling) and I'm on the look out for a new Valk. Hopefully I'll see you all soon on the road!

Well done! You will miss it until you find yourself a better bike.
:-)

Use the opportunity to buy it from another State and enjoy a nice ride back home.
