Has anyone been able to get the Half-Life FPS games to run on Win7?  I've been trying to get it to work on my new Win7 platform, having replaced the old XP server. This is a powerful machine, really strong video card, 8 parallel processors at 3.4GHz, 16Gb RAM, SSD HD, 64bit OS (I understand some limits on the game, wants 32bit OS). Much stronger than game requirements. Tried lots of things, including emulating XP, using Windows Virtual PC with XP mode, surfing the game forums for solns - no one has an answer that works for me.  This was a great game a decade ago, won lots of awards and was ground breaking.  Valve has made it clear they will not be supporting it going forward or releasing the long-teased Episode 3.  Maybe some of our geeks have got it to run on Win7...

does this help?

On a personal note, Half-Life was my absolute favorite game.  The "We Don't go to Ravenholm" section scared the crap out of me.  The section with the old muscle car was my favorite, though.

I am not savvy in the ways of direct command line prompts and such.
Back when the 486 machines were the hot ticket, I could make a boot disc to run x-wing and tie fighter like a mofo.

I leave the heavy key jacking to the experts now!

It is a great game! I checked GOG.com thinking they might have it for sale, but they don't. They do all the heavy lifting to get old games to work on new computers.

Glad to help out!

On another sorta related note, I stopped playing pc games.  Got a ps3 a few years ago and a ps4 a month ago and am happy (since I am only an occasional gamer these days).

Hey TT do ya need a copy of the HL series - I have them all (pretty sure).  Since they don't sell it anymore, might be OK to burn ya a copy.  Half Life 2 Ultimate Edition 7 is 36Gb; could burn that on disc and have at the dinner Sat.

I enjoy FPS games a lot over the years as they developed.  Did have the HF series, was unhappy when the stopped making it.  I have switched to XBOX from the PC games.   They did upgrade HF to the Xbox.  Got the game for Christmas.
