No, but white is the way to go, living over there in the furnace.  cooldude

So what if you look like the ice cream man?   Grin  My full mesh jacket is white/silver (with the seemingly obligatory black bits of trim)

Besides my First Gear mesh pants being solid black, IMHO it was the full length liner that made them unbearably hot to wear in hot weather.  It was perforated throughout but all nylon and it did not breath very well (and our interstates block more wind than other valks).  I cut my liner down to short shorts, but the internal unfinished cordura seams were painful and rubbed me raw just wearing them.  If I was to do that over, I would just cut big holes in the liner, but leave it in place over those nasty seams.  It's not like the liner is part of the protection.

The pics and write-up does not mention the liner.  It also says a great deal of it is mesh, and it's hard to tell how much isn't from the pics (the more the better).  Says they're big enough to wear pants under.... that's good for breathing air, but who the heck wants pants underneath full/mostly mesh in scorching weather?

Yes, the furnace is about to crank up here. Actually my main goal with these is to wear some sweatpants underneath them. With a sweatshirt soaked in water under my mesh jacket I can go about an hour in 120* plus. I'm thinking with the pants it might make it even more bearable.

I know about the wet shirt under the mesh (done it with shirts and evaporative vest, but it's really humid here in summer)  Maybe wet pants under mesh pants will work better too.

I gave up on the mesh pants.  I just could not make them work for me.  What works best for me is relaxed loose jeans (not hot kevlar or double thickness ones) up on the hwy pegs.  The air fills the pants legs like balloons all the way to the crotch, but the jeans are stiff enough at the hem to stay open in the wind.  Lighter weight pants cannot be made to stay open at the hem/bottom.  And the jeans still keep the engine heat off your legs.  With mesh, the engine heat just cooked me when slow and stopped, especially after I cut the liner out.  On the other hand, I twice took off early on long rides on days that would be in the nineties later, but froze my ass off (like no pants at all), until about 10-11am.

Don't forget that MotorcycleGear.com also has a used section.... since you're experimenting.

I really don't like riding at night where I live.  Out there, I might try it more in summer.  I really don't enjoy a view of only headlights and taillights much.

I would hesitate to go riding with soaked sweatpants, were I you.  You might end up with pale, wrinkly privates.  Shocked

Hence the no more sporting the chaps without pants, just ain't what they useta be.  Undecided

Aside from the obvious multi-purpose use for early am milk delivery and your Fri-Sat night Disco Dance-off's.

My thoughts:
  • Definitely looks like they have the features for their intended purpose.
  • You will steal all the attention from your fellow riders.
  • I wonder about the "white mesh" holding up to staining,  retaining all the colored bug-guts you encounter?  I know how my pant shins get after a decent swarm (or less) of gnats, locust, beetles, etc. ???

I think you are right Gary. They will not look white for long I'm sure. If I get them maybe it will give me that more grizzled, seasoned look.  Grin

I can only imagine what a white mesh outfit would look like after riding through the swarm of dragon flies that I went through in the Yukon! It went on for 20 miles and had to stop and scrape off the winshield so I could see.

North of Ft Nelson on 97 where it crosses the BC border a couple of times. It reminded me of the Mayfly season where I grew up on the Mississippi in Iowa

Not sure about the pants either but I can fully attest to the effectiveness of an evap. cooling vest underneath a mesh jacket! Even in the high humidity of Florida those are the bomb! Feels like you are wearing an air conditioner!

My evaporative vest was OK to good (under mesh), until my body and ambient temps brought the heat of all water on board and my Tshirt to body temp (98.6), then I didn't like it so much.

My Iceberg polymer vest was dry in 2.5-3 hours, and I gave it away.  My water retaining crystal vest, I still have (it'll stay wet for days).

All charged with water, I keep it in the fridge in a big ziplock, then throw it in the bags to leave early before it was needed (too cold out of the fridge anyway).  Mid to late morning it would still be cool (not freezing), and it was great.  A few hours later at body temp it got slimy and seemed to make me hotter than taking it off.

I can ride any day, so I mostly don't in mid to high 90s.   Or leave at the grey of dawn and home mid day.

I purchased the Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.o Mesh jacket and pants for my wife and I at the start of the riding season last year.  We both love them.  I wear a cooling vest over a dry max type shirt and I am cool for hours.  I either wear shorts or just by underwear under the pants and I never have been hot.  The pants and jacket have very large holes in the mesh.  The jacket has a removable rain liner.

I wear these dble knee carhartt's most of the time.

We've seen two crashes in Carhartt's and they performed about as well as the pair of Kevlar jeans we saw hit the deck.

Also have a Rocket mesh jacket. Love it and no rash. My cooling vest is also worn over fishing shirts that are super at wicking moisture so the system works very well.

I was stuck out in Nevada and it was around 118 degrees so I picked up a pair of mesh pants at a BMW dealership, they look like cargo pants, I took out the pads and man they were great, the bean bag stayed nice and dry and the air felt good blowing round, I don't not wear them all the time but when it's super hot it's nice, bought a wet vest too, that made the ride enjoyable too

Edit, I should have called you yesterday. A couple buddies and I did a 400 mile loop thru Joshua Park, Amboy, and Goffs. See you on the next ride.

Meathead--Going back to your original post, I have a pair of the Icon mesh pants you are looking at.  Not sure if they are the exact same edition, but they look similar.  Mine are light grey and have armour in the knees only.  They work fine in our hot weather, but I confess I only wear when going on longer rides.  Not because they are hot, but because they are a pain to put on and take off for riding to the store, work etc.  Fortunately have not had to test their survivability.

cooldude Was just there yesterday. My wife and I have been making an annual trip up to Mammoth Lakes in the summer. That 300 miles of desert before you gain some elevation and a little relief can be brutal. The trip there leaving at 5am is bad enough, but packing up the camping gear and leaving at 9 am to hit 5 hours across the desert at midday is rough. I'm looking for every advantage I can get.  cooldude
