Petcock rebuild

In case anyone wonders what's inside.....!  I had gas leak by and puddle under the trike. Investigating I took the petcock apart to check the diaphragm and it looked good, seemed to operate correctly. I start looking into the hole and notice some black "stuff" inside. Kept tapping and eventually got some gunk out, looked like some type of seal. So thinking I need a new petcock I decided to do some surgery. Drilled out the rivets and took the cover plate off and checked out what was going on. I think I might be able to fix this, maybe :uglystupid2:. So I tapped my drilled out holes to M4 x 0.7 because that's what fit when I got all the rivet material out of the way. Found some O rings at Lowe's that look like they will work. The package says size is #5.   You can see the lip inside the hole so I am wondering how well these will stay in place once its reassembled. Any ideas on what might secure them?  Don't know if they will stay in that groove as the thickness is slightly larger than what came out. Maybe a dab of superglue?

If I was doing this, I wouldn't. :)

The petcock on our bikes is a very important part in Hydro Lock prevention.

You said you need a new one, so I'd go with that and get a new OEM or a aftermarket.

I don't think that those are individual o-rings but a sheet with integral raised o-rings. Probably time for a new petcock.

Great pictures of the inards of a petcock.

I concur with previous posts of buying a new petcock.

You need the original part, the individual orings will not stay in the groove.
Yes it is one part with intergral attached  orings.

Check other petcocks as there may be one available from another petcock that will work or can be modified to work. As on some petcocks a similar part is available and replaceable.

Example look at the tank petcock for some of the V65 Hondas.
