I have a newer Chevy pickup with chrome running boards with black rubber pads for your feet. I like to kept the black pads looking like new (shiny). But what can I use that doesn't make them slippery.
I can also use it on my bike.

Judicious use of wheel and tire cleaner (mild corrosive), scrub and rinse good.  It can lift some adhesive if it gets underneath.  Shouldn't come out slippery, but can't be certain.

Maybe tire dressing.

I think most products used to darken up the running boards will make it somewhat slippery but the darker blackness will outlast the initial few weeks of slipperyness.

I know armor all darkens things up but also makes it slippery for awhile as well.  Just watch your step and you will be fine.

I use to have running boards on my former chevy trucks with the hard plastic steps on the chromed nerf bars.   I began to HATE them since in WI winters the slush and slippery ice/snow would accumulate on the boards/step part and more than once I would slip off of the running boards and whack HARD my leg hurting like heck.  Did it a few times every winter so ended up taking them off and selling them and vowed never to get a set of running boards again.  Much the same as vowed never to buy another truck with a bed UNDER 6 feet long.  The 1-2 times a few times per year I need an over 6 foot bed, it is a must.  I actually sold ASAP going on a long family vacation in 2007 my new 2007 chevy silverado crew cab SHORT bed (5'8") since my youth ATV and other tote boxes, etc. brought along would NOT close the tailgate was 3-4 inches too short.  Sold it ASAP in less than 6 months being new and bought my first 2007 Toyota tundra double cab 6 1/2 foot bred and never looked back since
