Yeah, I can read it too. 

Not that we need everyone on here to give up entirely on spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Me personally, on forums, I try to write like I speak.  I break plenty of grammar rules all the time (like we do speaking more than writing), and I don't care.

It means: yes, or I agree, or you've said something that appeals to me. It evolved from "word to your mother" which meant honestly: I swear to your mother it is true... Then evolved to "word up" which was a generic catch all positive reply to many types of questions or positive affirmations.

I thought you guys were going all "hipster" on me ?  :)

Yes, many of us can read it without a problem.  It's been up here before.

As to spelling, it only says the order of the letters is not that important.  Most spelling errors don't use the correct letters. Spelling is still important.
