But still...these kind souls...had gone out of their way to warn me of a potential danger...and yanno..."stuff" can happen so it "could" be a wise thing to check it out.

Except for all those damn alarm bells...the ones in my head...saying, "UmmHmmm."

On a road in WV, long downhill, straight and could see clear to bottom, and up the next hill to the top. As I approached the bottom, I felt absolute terror, with the back of my neck suddenly soaked in sweat. I pulled over to the side, trying to figure out what the hell happened.  Sat there for a minute or so wondering, looking toward the top of the hill, afraid to continue.  As I did this, I saw a big dump truck crest the top of the hill, completely in my lane.  Watched it come down the hill at 70 or 80 until it passed me where I was sitting.  The feeling went away, and then I proceeded.  At the top of the hill there was a negative camber turn. The truck had drifted into my lane due to its' speed.  Had I continued instead of stopping, I am sure I would have been near the crest at the same time as the truck and would probably be bug splat.

Had a scare last summer. Going north on a two lane road. Came up to a road I wanted to turn right on.
Signaled my turn and because of construction cones at the corner, I had to move to the left of my north bound lane. Just as I was going to tip into the turn I did a shoulder check. Lucky I did. A taxi went passed me on my right side. I don't think he was looking ahead. I down shifted and caught up to him and wanted to know if he was blind. He had a puzzled look. Be careful out there. lots of them shouldn't be driving.
Spud.
