2003 ford f-150 super crew, paint just started peeling off. @#$@%

I have a really nice, or it was anyhow a really nice 2003 Ford f150 super crew, and i just took it to the car wash this morning and i was up in the box to replace the third tailight bulb and the roof have portions of paint missing, about 8 inch by 3 inch strip , and right where the right rear door closes on top is missing all along the cab above the door, im like what the hell.  It was in mint condition, i have babied it since i got it, dam this upsets me. OK well now that i got that off my chest im cracking a refreshing bud light.

  Don't be so shocked. I know there was a I guess a secret recall of sorts for defective paint.
     It had to do with the primer or the application process.
  There were blues greens and whites if I remember right. Also silvers.

Ford recalled and repainted my 1990 F250 back around 1994 or so.

Peeling paint was not the worst thing that happened on that truck.

it is near 15 years old,  whatcha expect?  Unless you wax 1-2 times the ENTIRE truck including top roof it will fade and paint will go bad.

You could research recalls or technical service bulletins online to see if any recourse with Ford, but guessing much past 10 years nothing will be covered. 

I know Toyota though stepped up to the plate on their rusty framed Tacomas some well over 10 years old and covered it 100% I believe.

I have a 98 F150 Lariat and the paint is fine everywhere and I have never repainted it.

its white, and weather its 15 yrs old or not,  just  got off the phone with the local ford dealership, and the original owner could get it repainted, and just my luck i am the second owner, buyint it with only 1300 miles on it from my grandma after grandpa passed away in 2003, so its kinda sentimental.
 I will take it to a body shop later today to see what to do,  with only 77,00 miles on it i will invest in new paint, then hand it down to my youngest offspring..
 Just angry but on a better note i put 6 miles on my valk yesterday . still sandy streets and run off water from melting snow. soon very soon, will be ridden daily.

I figured it couldnt hurt to try and they said it would be covered had i been the original owner even being 15 yrs old, they said the primer company is paying for the recall on them, i thought that alone was amazing, and the guy said with that low of miles is quit amazing, but its ok i will pay to have it done, now that i know the issue is with the primer not the paint, the whole truck will turn from white to white gray camo look, lol.

I'm certainly not trying to make light of your paint issue, but imagine how one should feel when their 4 year old Durangos are rusting badly! I don't know why Dodge can't get them right but that's inexcusable. No vehicle should be showing any signs of rust within 10 years-although I know the saltwater climes are tougher on vehicles than our Midwest.

Funny I know a lot of f250 owners and not one has complained. Sounds like before when everyone complained their gas pedals stuck and accelerated and no evidence of such was found. It's ok if you don't like ford

All the feedback is just fine, i dont get upset or cranky, im really very easy going not much gets under my skin, its just bad timing on Fords behalf because i am one year away from purchasing a new truck and was really looking at the Ford f150, but just not sure of the 3.5 v6.   I did take a look at the new Nissan fullish size truck it has a 5.6 v8 390 hp and claims 18 mpg hwy.  to many dam options these days

I get 18 mpg out of my Tundra and is IMO a better truck than Nissan. I had an 05 with 225k on it with 0 problems. I buy a truck to use and Tundra will be my go to model until it guves me a reason not to.

When Toyota starts putting a diesel in their trucks I will give serious consideration to buying a new truck.

With the prices being what they are I don't see how anyone can afford a new truck these days.

I looked at several Ford's and Chevy's that were on display at the race track this weekend.

Stickers ran from $50,000 to $70,000.

Even if I won the lottery I would still have heartburn paying that much for a truck.

I looked at a Nissan Titan with the Cummings Diesel last year.

The sticker on it was $38,000.

That's still a lot of money but it's better than $50,000

Yep,  all these trucks or SUVs are getting darn near too rich for my blood.  I swore a few years ago I would never buy another new truck over 30K in price.    The past 2 have been over that.   2017 tundra double cab  (ext. cab) msrp 40K bought for 36K  SR5 mid level trim.  My former 2014 tundra msrp was 37K msrp got for 33.5K and traded it in 3 years later for 29K.  Name another 1/2 ton truck on the market that you can drive near 3 years and loose in depreciation on trade in less than 5 grand?  I see recently the dealer sold my former 2014 tundra for around 31K.

My neighbor is going to buy a new 2017 or possibly wait later this year for a 2018 ford F150 crewcab 2.7L ecoboost V6 all depends on bigger rebates on a late model new 2017.  He does not need the big V6 or V8 since he does not pull much with it and wants to get over 20 hwy. mpg.  Only other option to get over 20 mpg is the toyota tacoma and honda ridgeline v6 choices, but those are darn near or possibly MORE than the ford f150 purchase price in a mid-sized truck vs. full sized truck.   Trying to convince him  to get one of those toyota/honda smaller trucks vs. the ford f150 for similar 38K purchase price, give or take probably higher, simply because of resale/trade in value some 3-4 years later and plus he does NOT need a full sized truck for his needs ever.   Told him I do not want any complaining to me back then buying that new ford f150 in 3-5 years later when he wants to trade it in for something else loosing 10-14 grand in depreciation.  The tacoma and ridgeline will hold their resale value much better and I know he will get rid of it in 3-5 years for sure no matter what he gets.  He spent an unheard of 32K for a totally loaded 2014 mazda CX-5 mid-sized SUV now has 66K miles on it and in very good shape but trade in is now only 15K or so is all, less than 1/2 of what he paid for it 3 years ago.

All about supply and demand plus reliability/best bang for your buck in what you want/need.  Go look at a dodge/chevy/ford truck lot vs. a tacoma/ridgeline/tundra lot.  You will see 10 to 20 or more of the big 3 trucks to 1 honda/toyota sitting.  Honda/Toyota trucks supply is very low and demand high.  I would even consider the Honda ridgeline if the darn thing would tow 6000 lbs. vs. only 5000 lbs. maxed since my enclosed trailer fully loaded is around 4500lbs., but the purchase price new is so darn close to full msrp right now since they just came out in short supply that you cannot get much off full msrp on any of them and the msrp is darn near what a new tundra msrp is pushing 38-40K.  Plus pretty sure that big ford f150 same size as my toyota tundra will not fit well in his smaller 2 car garage and his wife and kids being very tiny will not like driving that big of a truck ever.

On one of my walks I went thru the lot at the local Chevy/G M C dealer. Saw a 17 Suburban that stickered at 73 G+ Saw some pickups that stickered anywhere from the 30s to a bit south of 70G. The Ford and Chrysler lots offer similar pricing. On the rust/paint thing. Bought a Brand New 70 Dodge 3/4 ton that was in the showroom. Snow white plain Jane which I promptly put to work. 318 engine 4 speed 4/11 gears. When  traded it off 18 months later it had a severe case of body cancer with maybe 70 G miles on it AND it was washed at least every other week in the winter. Stout drive line but not much on rust resistance. 94 Oldsmobile I bought 8 years ago the sealcoat bout gone on the hood. Course had I been able to care for a vehicle the way the military cares for their A/C I would have only needed one vehicle. The term cost prohibitive comes to mind. RIDE SAFE.

Is your Grandmother still living? if so she is the original owner. have her have them fix it.
but as has been stated the truck is 14`15 yrs old. Like they say Tires don't last forever.

only ethanol free gas around me is 91 octane and for me anyways is not worth the extra 60 cents per gallon to use just to get 1-2 more mpg is all.  The tundra does not need nor require 91 octane gas runs fine on 87 octane as most high performance turbo engines need more so.  

whatever floats your boat though is fine with me, it is your moola not mine burning out the tailpipe.
