I get an email from her today, subject: MISTAKE!  In the note was a picture of an invitation from AARP, I couldn't help myself.....I had to show some real pity: NOT!  Grin

I wrote back a short note to the effect that I feel for her, and understand the stress she must be going through during these trying times when you're finally turning A HALF CENTURY OLD. It was followed by a series of laughing emoticons. Included in the email was a "Thinking Of You" sympathy ecard, and an attachment; a picture of a big bouquet of black roses.

Don't get me wrong, I love her dearly but she knew I wasn't going to let this pass. She's my wife's youngest kid, my youngest turns 50 next year. She already has warned me and I've already told her I'm not listening.  Grin

some people (mostly women I know) get upset if you mention the big 30, big 40, or big 50.  I would not push it if I was you.... ???  and do not even mention middle age to them even though I feel 50 is over middle age since most are not going to reach 100.   My 46 is over middle aged since I know I will not live to be 92.

It's basically a female thing. Some believe it's all over when they reach 50. I'm with you John, get over it, it's only a number not a time to curl up and hide.

It's funny how your perspective changes when you get past 50.   My oldest son is 60.

This month I turn 89.  I look back and remember riding back from Gatlinburg when I was 75.

When I go over to my son's house (I sold it to him) I look at all the 'improvements' that I made to the house and have mixed emotions knowing that I can't do anything like that anymore.  The good news is that I still can get around although a lot slower.

As far as AARP is concerned. I do remember that I received a join up card right before I went bow hunting in Michigan.  Funny, my wife never had a problem with passing 50. Some ladies don't I guess.

OK, I  will put it this way. I haven't seen many guys get geeked over turning 50 is what I'm saying. I have seen some woman (my cousin for one) cry and become a recluse  for 2 days when doing so. Never heard of or seen a guy doing that.

I have the greatest of sympathy for her, I received in the mail an envelope from AARP and thought it must be my mothers,  Grin Well I looked at the address and sure enough it had my name on it.  tickedoff

We chatted via phone today, she got a laugh out of my email. As for turning 50, she doesn't have a problem with it but added when her eldest turns 50, then she'll feel ancient. My oldest would have been 59 this year so I know of what she speaks. By that age I was 5 years into my second marriage and having  Lasik surgery done on my eyes. Both were great investments. Turning 50 never bothered me, actually afforded me some relief. It was the year my ex and I parted company, she followed her dreamboat to Wisconsin and I started getting the rest I needed. For me, it was a good year, hard to believe it was almost 30 years ago.  cooldude

I find any birthday just another reason to have a party. It seems the older we get the better the parties and actually just about anything is a good reason for a party.

WOMEN Can't figure them out. I'm going to be 75 next time around, don't like it but there's only one way to stop that from happening and I don't like that either.

when can you start to get most senior citizen discounts at restaurants and other places?  Is it 50, 55, or 60 or 65?   If 50,  I might pass for that to see if they ask for my id?

I did get a tad bit upset a long time ago when I was age 36 when the jerk off I had to work with at the time, a complete weirdo only lasted 3 months and lucky I did not literally kill him,  thought NOT joking around I was over age 40, him in the late 20s/early 30s.  Him giving me one more reason to beat the snot out of him.  One night told him if he says one more word he is going down ASAP and I meant that him knowing that I was dead serious.  5 minutes later he turned around and apologized seriously and honestly to me for him flipping out prior being a jerk.  He even was so weird with long hippy grungy hair that he sniffed repeatedly his hair from the back pulling it around in front just to twirl it and sniff it - WEIRDO.... Cheesy
